Every tonne of C02 avoided counts ! 👍 It's just a short step from academic research to innovative solutions that deliver concrete results.  🌍 For the Fluid Dynamics of Sustainability and the Environment Summer School, I had the pleasure of moderating this round table dedicated to innovative solutions for decarbonization. 🚀 Three companies presented their solutions and the challenges they had to overcome to a group of 42 PhDs from all over the world: - SpotLight Earth for rapid monitoring of CO2 storage dynamics - AYRO specialized in wind assisted ship propulsion - BlueFloat Energy to develop floating wind farms Many thanks to Elodie Morgan, Romain GRANDSART, Charbel Nasr who brought this debate to life and inspired the participants of this summer school jointly organized by École Polytechnique and the University of Cambridge. Will painting one wind turbine blade black help reduce bird collisions? TNO, in collaboration with RWE, Provincie Groningen, and other public and private partners, is extending the ongoing study on the effectiveness of a single black rotor blade. Research in Norway showed a positive effect on bird behaviour. 2024 International Conference on Ocean Energy was successful and productive for University of Adelaide researchers working on wave energy 🌊. There's plenty of talk about how wind farms affect birds, but what about plants? 🌱 New research from FME NorthWind PhD Lukas Seifert investigates the ecological impacts of onshore wind farms on vegetation⤵️ By studying sites across Norway, Lukas explores how wind energy development disturbs plant communities—and how ecosystems recover over time.
