Tyler Perry‘s latest film “Divorce in the Black” not only drew strong viewership — Nielsen reported that it hit more than 498 million minutes watched in its first four days of availability on Amazon Prime Video — but according to Amazon, the soapy drama has also driven more sign-ups to Prime Video in the U.S. than any Amazon MGM Studios-produced movie to-date. The declaration comes after “Divorce in the Black” made its debut on the Nielsen’s Top 10 streaming chart, where it came in as the No. 3 movie of the July 8-14 viewing window behind Netflix’s “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F” and “If” on Paramount+. When divided by the film’s nearly 2.5-hour length, its 498 million-minute total during that window (the film began streaming on July 11) translates to an estimated 3.5 million views.

How Netflix Secretly Controls Your Decisions 🎬 Did you know the thumbnail you see on Netflix is key to what you end up watching? Let me break it down for you. 👇 Netflix creates multiple thumbnails for a single movie or series... and picks the perfect one just for you. 👻 Love classic movies? You’ll probably see a “Ghostbusters” thumbnail. 👹 Into horror? Expect something that matches your past watches. Same show. Different approach. All tailored to your taste. Why? Humans are visual creatures. 🧠 The right thumbnail can make you click—even if the movie isn’t the best for you. 👀 So, how do you capture your user’s attention? #UXDesign #VisualMarketing #Personalization #UserExperience

https://lnkd.in/g9HvCw-Z. From the beginning I think a lot of people in this town, including those who really respect Stuber, thought, "Gee, how hard is that: throw money at talent and watch them make original movies that can only be seen if you have a subscription to Netflix? And really, was it all that difficult to foresee that the real objective wasn't unique one-off movies, but series that keep customers tethered to that magical MRC. More than 5 years ago now I posted an opinion that Netflix should just buy Paramount. At the time Netflix was moving into a price new high rise in Hollywood and Paramount was floundering (pre-TOP GUN, pre-Par+). With Paramount there is an abundance of ever-green series content and plenty of IP still ripe for continual development (ie STAR TREK). That's the route I would have gone if I were Ted. But I'm not and now Netflix has a lot of fancy films that hardly anyone is ever going to watch. The other rub is that the Netflix Berlin wall approach against theatrical is self-defeating. I think Netflix would surprise itself if it purchased a small theater chain and started stunt releasing their series a week early on the big screen (for an added subscription, of course). Think a new episode every day for a week before you could watch it on Netflix. Hey, hold my popcorn...

What is going on with Amazon Prime Originals? After a less than stellar 2023 for originals, they have two new originals in the top including the number one movie #1 Roadhouse (2024) is a huge hit with twice as many minutes than #2 Damsel (2024). You gotta check out the breakout performance by Conor McGregor whose over the top hilarious character deserves his own movie. Amazon Prime is also going to dominate TV charts for the next few weeks with Fallout at #1 However it's not just Amazon's new movies, Netflix has 3 movies from 2024 in the top 10. In fact, 9 out of the top 10 movies are from 2023 and 2024 with Disney+'s Moana (2016) as the only exception. It's a stark contrast to previous years when over 90% of the most popular movies were from the far past. Check out my article for FORTUNE/YAHOO on old movies outperforming new movies. https://lnkd.in/gC78UJa9 Seems like new movies are finally getting better...or more popular!

Looking to spike your cortisol levels? Then we’ve got the Netflix streaming guide for you. From old frights to new fears, we’ve scoured Netflix’s horror catalog to find the best cinematic nightmares for darkening your device. Of course, not all terrifying titles are born of the same fire and brimstone — so we’ve included a variety of ethereal ghost stories, stark home invasion horrors, gentrifying vampires, psychological thrillers, classic creeps, satirical scares, and more. Yes, Netflix originals like the Fear Street trilogy and I’m Thinking of Ending Things are on here. But we’ve also got genre staples and hidden gems. Here are the best scary movies currently streaming on Netflix — all of them packed with eerie entertainment value, because you don’t need to sleep ever again. Happy haunting! 25. The Autopsy of Jane Doe Anybody who saw the absolute blast of found footage fun that was 2010’s Troll Hunter knew that Norwegian director André Øvredal was somebody to watch out for. And yet six years later, his follow-up, this claustrophobic oddity about a father and son pair of coroners (pre-Succession Brian Cox and Emile Hirsch) who go to work trying to figure out what killed the mysterious, unblemished young woman whose body has been delivered to their lab, didn’t make much of a sound. Not at first, anyway. But over the years the film’s cult has steadily grown, and by now from where I stand, it’s become a stone cold (or should I say, “corpse cold”?) classic. Awash in deeply unsettling body horror that digs its hooks deep into our anxieties about what’s under our own skin, The Autopsy of Jane Doe eventually twists its scalpel to become something even stranger still. A real hidden gem. — Jason Adams, Freelance Contributor How to watch: The Autopsy of Jane Doe is now streaming on Netflix. 24. El Conde Credit: Netflix Chilean General Augusto Pinochet was one of history’s most notorious dictators and a voracious embezzler, to boot. What if he were “bloodthirsty” in a more literal sense? From Spencer director Pablo Larraín, this pitch-black satire reimagines Pinochet (played here by Jaime Vadell) as a 250-year-old vampire, living in exile with a family whose ready to tear him (and each other?) apart over his vast fortune. Think of it as “Blood Succession,” but with a math-whiz nun at the center of it (Paula Luchsinger, who nearly steals the film). Filmed in lush black and white, El Conde is a dark, clever, and often gruesome gothic alternative history. It pulls off the feat of offering supernatural chills while never losing sight of the monstrous historical evils which it draws upon. — Rufus Hickok, Contributing Writer How to watch: El Conde is now streaming on Netflix. 23. Under the Shadow Times are tense in 1980s Tehran for mother Shideh (Narges Rashidi) and her daughter Dorsa (Avin Manshadi). The former medical student is worried about running afoul of Iran’s repressive
