Retaining freedom is just as crucial as gaining it. The moment you secure it, the challenge shifts from liberation to preservation. Freedom isn't a one-time victory but a continuous effort. It requires vigilance, wisdom, and sometimes the courage to defend it against subtle encroachments. Without nurturing and protecting it, freedom can slip away as quietly as it was earned, leaving only the memory of what once was. Does complacency about peace explain divisive and even destructive actions? Those who damage and desecrate public monuments do so confident in the belief that their society is strong enough to withstand such attacks. Their perception is that they and their supporters will be able to continue their daily lives and enjoy the blessings of a peaceful, prosperous and secure society, no matter how ugly, reckless, violent or destructive their own actions. They (perhaps) do not understand that their actions (cumulatively) make their own nation weaker, bringing the prospect of a much less peaceful and secure future closer with every divisive action. They have lost any connection between their own responsibilities as citizens and the gifts they receive daily as citizens of a free and inclusive society. In most cases, we do not receive such gifts because of anything we have personally done or not done to deserve them (or not deserve them). Rather we receive such gifts because of events that happened well before we were born and because of the terrible sacrifices of past generations. Ultimately, I believe complacency lies at the heart of divisive actions. Freedom only works across a liberal democracy in any practical sense if it is attached to civic duty and personal responsibility for one's actions. Without those stabilising elements of duty and responsibility, freedom ceases to be a positive gift and becomes profoundly – and sometimes terrifyingly – nihilistic and destructive.

Individual Freedom: The birth of our great nation was inspired by the bold declaration that our individual,God-given liberties should be preserved against government intrusion. That same conviction informs our conservative policy decisions still today. In America,we proclaim the self-evident truths that all of us are created equal and granted by God the same inherent freedoms, such as the natural and unalienable rights to life, liberty, conscience, free speech and the free exercise of religion, and the ability to pursue happiness, own property, build wealth and defend ourselves and our families. The purpose of government is to secure these rights, and the ideas we advance should always aim to maintain and increase the liberty of the American people.

This day is more than just a celebration of our independence from colonial rule; it is a testament to the enduring spirit of liberty that defines us as Americans. Freedom is a precious gift, but it is also a responsibility. It requires vigilance, effort, and a commitment to the values that underpin our society. As President Ronald Reagan once said, "Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn't pass it to our children in the bloodstream. The Price of Freedom is Eternal Justice... I've noticed as the Class War has progressed these past few decades, it's become increasingly difficult to think clearly about potential solutions. What should have worked, might have worked, simply didn't. And while I once had friends who saw the possibility of a better day on the horizon, today, most of my friends and associates are beginning to, figuratively and literally, "fold their tents, like the Arabs, And as silently steal away." While self-preservation is one of our more basic instincts, what civilization teaches us is that it is the 'herd' that must survive long-term, and sacrifices are sometimes needed to ensure the 'Greater Good'. Ideally, we make those sacrifices willingly and on our own accord. We have perhaps forgotten, that it was once the key responsibility of 'Leadership' to defend the survival of the tribe, the herd - with one's life if necessary. We have expert opinion to confirm the 'effects' of the Class War on individuals and society, as we attempt to explain the defection of so many who now turn a deaf ear when the chaos starts taking its toll. Millions tune out, drop out and let the devil take the hindmost, everyday. But when there's no longer a place to run to, or hide, hard decisions will have to be made. Some will have to step up so that not just 'others', but other generations will succeed. We are almost there. For better or worse, it is no longer peace we must give a chance, but freedom and justice - for all humanity, and not just the wealthy. For in the Class War, without Justice, there will never be Peace.
