Our model is simple: once a month neighbors leave the most needed non-perishable items on their front porches, and our volunteers pick up and deliver them to a local pantry. Starting off July with #Wins! Thank you ULSTER SAVINGS CHARITABLE FOUNDATION and Ulster Savings Bank Newburgh, Branch manager, Matthew Agor for helping us launch our first Transformation Kitchen™️ in Newburgh with this generous donation of $2k towards our goals. TK represents our most proactive, on-the-ground initiative, for which we are currently fundraising to establish our inaugural site in Newburgh, NY, by the year's end. In an ideal world, we would have the space to accommodate students in need with housing, operate at least one mobile unit to serve food deserts, and possess sufficient fertile land to initiate Gardens Of Hope. This program, adjacent to the kitchen, would educate on composting, gardening, and the importance of cultivating the land. We will teach Culinary, Life, and Power Skills to underserved communities while they help us build a sound community and feed the food insecure. We offer wellness coaching and 1:1's to provide extra assistance to those in need. Every graduate will have a living wage job, a boatload of skills, and a sense of belonging in a community that is safe and accepting. This program is more than a job skills program. It is a solution for the tackling issues head on. No band aids, half-measures, or rhetoric. Genuine solutions to reduce crime, eradicate poverty, nurture community, provide for the food insecure, generate employment, and move beyond past errors to start anew. Help us get to the finish line. I volunteered at The Hoboken Shelter, and it was an awesome experience. It taught me how even my (1 person) participation can make a difference to those in need, and importantly making things easy for everyone so that people can utilize the services effectively! I spent the day sorting through donations, which included separating three HUGE bags of bread donated by local bakeries. This task involved separating the good bread from the stale. After that, I teamed up with another volunteer and made sure that pastries, soap bars, and other food items were portioned properly so that people could easily collect and use them. Putting hygiene protocols into action makes a difference between people consuming and adhering to them. It’s all about making things easy- not just about access or education. I also helped with behind-the-scenes efforts in washing kitchen towels and aprons for the staff and volunteers. It’s not just help for the needy. This experience taught me how much of a difference even just one person volunteering can make - drops make an ocean. I also learned that one should focus on operations and make things easy for all involved so that adherence is effective. Most importantly, I made friends with other volunteers, and it was overall a fun experience that involved giving back to my community. Make an impact in someone’s life today. Over 3 million tonnes of food wasted across the food industry each year is good-to-eat when it’s discarded. That good-to-eat wasted food is enough for an estimated 7 billion meals. Astonishing figures that inspired a team of employee volunteers from Motorpoint to help a Nottingham charity that works with local supermarkets to redistribute surplus food to small charities, schools & community groups. It was an eye opening day for the team, seeing the shear scale of food that came in one door and later, being caged, sorted and weighed to go out of another door to local charities that help people in real need. Employee volunteering can take you to places & introduce you to new people. It adds value to your life, widens your horizons and brings you closer to issues in your own community. Could employee volunteering give you and your colleagues food for thought?

I haven't talked about my food pantry on LinkedIn. This part of my life didn't fit into the workplace bullying space... Which is what many of you know me for now. As I integrate my life and work more, I've been reflecting on workers' rights as human rights. Poverty and the food insecurity that comes with it is a form of corporate trauma. The intersection of food insecurity and corporate abuse has become much more clear with greedflation, shrinkflation, and wage suppression driving up costs for consumers while driving down their earnings. Especially for hourly workers and the gig economy. Everything I do is centered around reducing trauma in the ways I can. My posts on here are one way. My pantry is another. Advocating for workers' and human rights starts within my community - small and large (neighborhood, company, state, country, social media platform) - a way I work directly within my community is through my Little Free Pantry. The largest in the city of Seattle, WA USA, it has a fridge and regular food donations from various food banks. We provide mutual aid to hundreds of families each year around the Seattle area. And I'm expanding what we do: - Growing food via aquaponics (using principles of tiny house living to maximize the yield and footprint of food growth in the city) - Wellness Retreats - Community Events (movie nights, gardening classes, noxious weed removal parties) - Yoga Classes The pantry took a backseat while I was working full time... Since leaving my position, I have been actively engaged in it again and want to make it sustainable. Which is why I'm also applying as a 501(c)3 in the coming weeks. This formalizes tax deductible donations and other activities under an entity that doesn't depend solely on me in the future.
