Just watched this video by Jeff Geerling. A Chinese company (Elecrow) released videos that used his voice without permission. Jeff released a video on the subject three days ago. His a video called them out on it; within 24 hours, the company CEO wrote to him, apologized, took down the videos, and set up accountability. Now, obviously, there's a degree of "caught red-handed" and questions about whether this would have occurred if it hadn't been a YouTube influencer who called them out. (Noting they asked him to take his "this happened" video down, which Jeff described.) Nevertheless, they did act first. They acted quickly. They acted from the top down. They acted with apparent sincerity. Which the linked video notes. A Chinese company was, in the moment, very much more ethical than all of the AI companies that are just inhaling our collective data. Unapologetically, with no intent to change course. That's worth noting. My goal here isn't necessarily to call out the ethics of individuals in China; however, the cultural history there hasn't exactly been highly supportive of intellectual property, either corporate or individual. I'd like to see more of this all around. #ai #artificialintelligence #jeffgeerling #youtube #voicecloning #privacy #rights #IP #intellectualproperty #voiceacting https://lnkd.in/gf8DFx3h

The council of Europe's global treaty on AI is the first ever international legally binding treaty aimed at ensuring that the use of AI systems is fully consistent with human rights, democracy and the rule of law. I am a believer that while human rights for all must be upheld, unregulated use of AI can narrow this space for most underrepresented and underserved groups. Today I join the CAIDP global AI academic network, in endorsing this treaty. For more information see https://lnkd.in/d7hm3Kub
