This was a fun conversation with Colin Hung about the value of attending industry conferences.
My take: They are worth attending - IF you put some effort into getting the most out of your conference experience.

🔎🌏 In the dynamic landscape of events, the evolution in the healthcare sector is changing the way we experience meetings and congresses.
This wave of change urges us to explore new horizons 🛣 , placing a central focus on the individual experience and studying events based on the unique needs of partecipants🕵♀️. With this direction, however, significant challenges arise for companies and associations.
Here's how to approach this transforming territory✍👇

You know all of those posts that you are seeing of people at conferences? This is the opposite of those posts, this is of someone NOT attending conferences and their standard desk and office gear.
Kudos to all of the road warriors who have spent the last weeks going from Los Angeles to Orlando and more, wow! Looking at posts it is clear that there are conferences literally every week.
I went a different route and elected to opt out. Do not get me wrong, there are amazing spring conferences from the likes of HIMSS, ViVE, American College of Healthcare Executives. But for me for right now, attending was not the priority. Why? Well:
1. We have our 2024 plan pretty locked down with clear objectives and plans. Will I need to fill in more details as we progress? Sure, but for that I can have one on one conversations.
2. We have several developing leaders on our team who have never been to major conferences and having them attend and have this experience trumps me attending them [again].
3. To really experience these conferences, you have to invest the time. Time to be present, time to connect, time away from the office. This is one reason that I am doubling down on local conferences (like the Tennessee HIMSS Chapter Summit, Nashville Health Care Council Sessions, and more). Less travel = less time commitment.
Cheers to all my friends and colleagues who attended and presented at amazing Spring conferences. Maybe see you in the Fall and be in touch, me and the others that did not attend the conferences miss you! #conferences#optout
Fear is a reaction. Courage is a decision. Medical affairs/RWE/HTA expert statistician. The Effective Statistician! Leadership trainer. Speaker. Podcaster.
I love conferences. And I'm excited about organising my next conference in November: The Effective Statistician conference #3
This conference will differ from my first two conferences: bigger and more variability
With every conference, I want to go one step further.
The next conference will have both invited and contributed speakers.
It will include presentations, workshops, and panel discussions.
And it will cover the global time zones much better.
And the conference will run over four full days.
And most importantly, we will use a great networking tool that makes it very easy to talk to other participants.
It is again a virtual conference, so it is very easy for you to take part in this conference.
Despite this broad programme, I want to keep the conference affordable.
This is especially true for those who believe in the success of the next conference based on past conferences with over 800+ registrations.
That's why I have a super early bird rate, which is valid until the end of May.
And of course, active participation is free. This means that if you contribute a poster or a presentation, you get the entire package for free.
Plus - if you have already purchased the complete package, you'll get a refund.
Check the conference page via the link in the comments.
I can't wait to see you at the conference!
PS - the photo was taken at a PSI conference, which I will attend as well this year.
Did you know? A flawed planning process is the root cause of many on-the-ground issues at congresses.
📊 56% of our participants described the planning process as “decentralized”, “complicated”, “chaotic”, and “disorganized”.

#HIMSS vs. #HLTH 🤺
I am just back from two conferences in Europe: HIMSS in Rome followed in two weeks by HLTH in Amsterdam.
✅️ Both conferences are trying to expand outside the US.
✅️ Both are focused on digital health.
✅️ Both were not really big.
✅️ Both attracted the best speakers and panelists - a truly splended mix of international #healthcare leaders.
However, in my personal impression, HIMSS was completely knocked out by HLTH this time. 👊🏆
Of course, everyone at HLTH was amazed by an unforgettable atmosphere of never-ending celebration 🍻: terrific production, colors, music 🎶, food, hairdresser ✂️🪮 and makeup corner💄, on-site and off-site activities, tons of give aways and unforgettable funny #unicorn 🦄 ready to take a picture 📷 with each and every participant. (💡Eventually it looks like we finally have the first-time ever COOL 🎉 event in such a conservative industry like healthcare🩺). But ☝️ A true X-factor of HLTH was its amazing networking platform. 🤝 That was an absolute game-changer in what you take from the conference experience at the end 🃏.
Not only the networking app was smartly built and, sorry for cliche, user friendly. (Very simple, but unfortunately not obvious to many conferences' organizers 🤷♀️ - If you position yourself as a leading event in technological field you must use up-to-date technological platforms).
The HLTH concept itself was so much #networking oriented 🎯 that literally "required" from every participant to commit to be an active networker. As if it was saying: "Want to enjoy being a part of our #community? Be open to communicate and meet people". Bravo to organizers! 🫡🫶👏
With no doubt, those conferences that do not understand importance of networking and do not close this gap in their programs will find themselves not relevant very soon. 💯 People vote by feet. ⛷️
For me the choice is obvious. What about you❓️
