Front End Processes Morning Briefing - Accountability: - Store Manager / Assistant Store Manager Responsibility: - Store Manager / Assistant Store manager In the morning briefing process, the Store Manager (SM) or Assistant Store Manager (ASM) gathers all staff, usually in the backroom, for a formal meeting that lasts about 15–30 minutes. This meeting serves as a two-way communication forum to cover important daily operational updates, including: Sales performance: Reviewing the previous day's sales against targets, with staff filling out a daily rate card, and discussing the sales targets for the current day based on department-wise analysis. External communication: Relaying any external messages to the sales associates. New implementations: Announcing any new processes, visual merchandising (VM), or point-of-sale (POS) updates. Staff achievements: Highlighting significant achievements or notable incidents from the previous day. Market and store updates: Sharing relevant store or market write-ups. Stock issues: Addressing stock delivery challenges and availability. Store maintenance: Discussing the upkeep of the backroom and shelf replenishment. VM and POS arrangements: Ensuring that visual merchandising and POS elements are properly arranged. Operational adjustments: Noting any changes in responsibilities and addressing specific issues. Customer feedback: Reviewing customer complaints and feedback. Season or promotion launches: Providing staff with insights about new collections, brands, and trends, ensuring they are kept informed over time to aid in retention. Just because someone knighted you with the title "Parts and Accessory Manager", that doesn't mean that you know anything about merchandising. Unfriendly retail environments - It's a common mistake I see in my travels as an NCM Associates 20 Group Moderator. There's a different set of skills that come into play when a dealer wants to transition from being a motorcycle shop to a retail powerhouse. Just hanging a few shirts on the slatwall and stacking boxes of boots on the floor below the gear isn't merchandising. Merchandising involves: - Product Assortment: Selecting products that meet customer demand and align with the brand. - Visual Display: Arranging products to attract attention and enhance the shopping experience. - Pricing: Setting prices strategically to balance customer expectations and profitability. - Inventory Control: Managing stock to meet demand without overstocking or shortages. - Customer Experience: Creating a seamless, engaging shopping experience with clear signage and efficient service. If it's 2024 and you are tired of looking at the 2019 run of MSR gear that's hanging in your parts department, then consider upping your game by enrolling your P&A Manager in some retail merchandising training.
