Shopify just launched metaobject and metaobject_list theme settings (Oct 30). This is huge for theme and app developers who want to create more dynamic, data-driven store experiences. The reason this matters is that it gives developers more powerful and flexible ways to structure content and data within Shopify themes. Metaobjects are essentially custom content types, and this update makes them more accessible and manageable within theme settings, enabling more sophisticated and customizable storefronts while maintaining consistency across the Shopify ecosystem. My brain is already cooking up some really great use cases for this.

Shopify Checkout Extensibility upgrade Shopify has set two deadlines to upgrade pages:  👉August 13, 2024: Upgrade your Information, Shipping, and Payment pages. 👉August 28, 2025: Upgrade your Thank you and Order status pages, including your apps, using script tags and additional scripts Checkout Extensibility is a replacement for the checkout.liquid file. This upgrade allows Shopify Plus users to set up checkout pages more easily and quickly while benefiting from enhanced security measures. Instead of handling customizations within the checkout.liquid file, any additional code should be added to "custom pixels." Each custom pixel functions as an iframe that hosts custom JavaScript snippets. #shopifyupdate

Good news for Shopify app developers! 🚀 The grace period for meeting key Built for Shopify criteria has been extended from 30 to 60 days. This applies to several important areas, including: • Minimising impact on store speed • Minimising impact on checkout speed • Meeting 75th percentile Web Vitals targets for admin performance • Minimum app installs, reviews, and app rating requirements Plus, when enforcement starts, Fulfillment services and Carrier services criteria will also have a 60-day grace period. This gives developers more time to meet these standards and keep their apps thriving in the ecosystem.
