Last year FRIEDA was the recipient of a COMCAST RISE Grant and was selected as 1 of 9 minority owned/co-owned small businesses to be featured in a three-part docuseries, hosted by Felecia Hatcher (CEO of Black Ambition), showcasing nine game-changing entrepreneurs of color who are laying the foundation for the future. The series illuminates the realities of creating competitive businesses in today's market. This series not only highlights the unique challenges and achievements of these entrepreneurs but also provides viewers with an in-depth understanding of the entrepreneurial journey, celebrating the innovative spirit that transforms visions into lasting legacies. The diverse team behind FRIEDA, past and present, including but not limited to Thomas, Ms. Huff, Oli, Gail, Fausta, Christina, Nahir, Elton, Kamrin, Tina, Richard, Austin, Paul, Sabrina, Gumer..., is honored and humbled. For almost 10 years now, with hard work, dedication, vision, love and empathy, we created a special space, that is safe and nurturing for all. FRIEDA's mission is to (re)connect generations, bringing together people of all ages and from diverse social, cultural and ethnic backgrounds, around food, art and culture. FRIEDA (2014) and FRIEDA Community (501c3, 2021) continue to build a unique community space based on shared interests in art, culture and food, and values including mutual respect, open-mindedness, curiosity, and empathy. We have nurtured and enriched the lives of so many people, in good and challenging times. Yes, FRIEDA feeds people in many ways. Community is a beautiful cure against social isolation and loneliness. We sat down with Mai-Liis Kivistik, an entrepreneur who faced what many would consider a business nightmare: a legal challenge that forced her to rebrand her entire company.
