10k followers 👋 for the new and old connections, I'd like to introduce myself. Please excuse the cropped head, but I am on brand Pivotal London! After 7 years and 6 roles, a new picture was needed. Senior Manager at Pivotal London, leading our in-house marketing and product division. We have carved a real niche working with high growth VC/PE backed businesses to build leadership teams and internal functions. Our sweet spot and the core market has become the inception point between marketing, product and growth. 🚀 I have always loved working with ambitious founders and investors, taking new ideas and products to market as an extension of their brand and vision. I'd like to think story telling is a strength of mine! Outside work, I am a fitness, sports, and adventure fanatic. I love doing hard things! Otherwise, you'll find me behind a BBQ or bar enjoying myself. I was fortunate enough to relocate back to Bristol and the South West during the pandemic. But I find myself in London most weeks attending client meetings and work events. For me, the best of both worlds. As we make inroads into H2 and rebound out of #thegreatstay and a long period of low attrition, we are expecting an interesting end to the year. Show me a team that cheers each other on, and I'll show you a team that's winning. I love the team culture we're building at Exit Five. Everyone is an owner of something. But also everyone's job overlaps with someone else's in some way. We don't have turf wars though. And we don't have joint ownership. Everything we do must be owned by a single person on the team. And the rest of the team is there to support that person's ownership. It's happening naturally, without a lot of direction. But its not just respecting who owns the project – our team actively cheers on each other's successes. We all want to see each other win. That's a big part of how we're winning this year. And we're hiring 2-3 more team members in the next 6-8 months 🙂

Growing up, my family was firmly embedded towards the lower end of ‘middle class’ - we always had enough, but there wasn’t very much ‘extra’. My mother usually shopped for groceries at Miracle Mart, and when we were expecting guests, she’d splurge on a few bottles of pop. She never bought the ‘good pop’; she always chose ginger ale, convinced it was the healthier option. My sisters and I thought it was dreadful! Whenever ginger ale went on sale, she'd load up. (In those days, the bottles were glass, and you had to pay a 30-cent deposit for the 750ml bottles and 60 cents for the 1.5-liter ones). I didn’t receive an allowance as a kid, so sometimes, I had to get a little creative when I needed some cash. One day, home alone, I had a genius idea! I grabbed four bottles from our fruit cellar and poured them down the sink. Then, I headed down the street, to Helen’s Variety to cash in! With $2.10 in cold, hard cash, I treated myself to a king-size Mars bar, a bag of Ring-O-Lo’s, a can of Coke, and as many one-cent Swedish Berries as I could get with the rest. That’s when things took a turn! I grabbed a spot in front of the store, hopped up on the ice freezer, and started enjoying my haul. Moments later, a car honked – it was my mother in our Mercury Marquis. She wagged her finger and motioned for me to go home. I won’t go into the details about what happened when I got there, but suffice it to say, mama wasn’t a believer of ‘time-out’ parenting! What does this have to do with Match and Fable’s role? Absolutely nothing. That said, while you’re here, we’re looking for a General Manager, Operations for our client’s massive DC in Toronto. The successful candidate must have the leadership experience, managing all operational aspects of a DC including facilities + staffing + development. They’ll manage a P&L + financial information + budgeting. This position directly manages 5 Operations Managers + indirectly manages ~200 employees. I haven’t posted recently about my day job, so here’s an update!! Yesterday we officially opened the 3rd brick and mortar location! Crazy right? In ONE year we have opened three completely new stores starting from less than nothing to be fully built, stocked, merchandised, staffed, and operating. This experience has been somewhat of a challenge, yet in my opinion has also been a fairly easy achievement. And no, it hasn’t been easy in the sense that it’s easy work or a simple feat to undertake. You see, it’s all about how you approach things. If you approach things with the confidence that you can accomplish any task necessary, you and your staff will not only be more effective at doing so, but it will be more fulfilling as well.

Returning from your annual leave to the news of a mass layoff is not easy, even if you have not been impacted directly. While I am sure this decision was not taken lightly and I could not agree more with what our CEO Dax said below about all the people we hired at Lightspeed over the past few years, it will take a while for those of us who are still here to go back to business as usual. When it comes to getting more done, in less time, first and foremost, know your goals - short and long-term (30 day and 1-3-5 years). Once you know where you are headed, you have your barometer to know where your time and attention is best served and that of your teams. These are my top 5 D's to help me prioritize daily: 1. Do it 2. Delegate it Personally and professionally - this can be as simple as using instacart to do your shopping, or hiring an executive assistant as your right hand person, or as involved as hiring an operations manager to oversee the day-to-day business allowing you to focus on leading the organization. 3. Delay it If it is not needed to achieve your 7-30 day goals, chances are it can easily be "parked" until the next month. 4. Dump it If it isn't necessary to achieve your 30 day or your 3 year goals, ask yourself if this is really something that deserves your time and attention? If not, dump it. 5. Distractions - let them go Chances are these distractions can also be described as tolerations. Those things that suck up your time and attention, and keep you from achieving your goals. LET THEM GO! Aligning the front and back of the house showed us who we are. It also showed us who our clients are. Let me explain. We're growing and took the time to coordinate across the company. ↳ Front of the house (Sales and Marketing) ↳ Back of the house (Recruiting and Ops) You know what we found? We're a reflection of our customers. Wild. We're a 15 year old family run company with a start-up mindset. This means everyone in the company, all 75 of us have skin in the game and care about what we're doing. Our clients vary in size, but they all share the same hallmarks of a start-up mindset and, often times. an origin story rooted in family. This is consistent whether the client has 500, 5000 or 50,000 employees. Each and everyone one of them and us has skin in the game. Now that's a powerful partnership that can move mountains. Funny enough, we didn't recognize this until we took the time to get aligned and get our house in order.
