With a standard feature #screenplay ranging from 90-120 pages, the most challenging part is creating a cohesive and well-crafted plot within that chunk of time. One of the best ways to learn what makes a winning screenplay is by studying them on the page. If you’ve ever wondered what makes a successful feature script, we’ve broken down THE FIRST MICHAEL by Michael Buonocore, the Grand Prize Winner from our 2022 Feature Screenplay #Contest. https://lnkd.in/eQWWgFw7

So many screenwriters come to us with ideas that are best described as SITUATIONS rather than STORIES. They are usually beautifully observed, often very personal and the writer is always eloquent and passionate about why the story needs to be told. But sometimes it's the need to communicate so much about the characters and their world that ends up smothering the potential story within it. If you're wondering whether the script you are working on has the forward dramatic momentum it needs to be both a satisfying story and deliver your intended meaning, then join us for The Script Factory's FREE ONLINE WORKSHOP. Screenplay Structure for Shorts via ZOOM, Monday 29th April 6.30pm - 7.30pm In this one hour taster session we will re-think the principles of the three act structure specifically for the short film, and address some of the common pitfalls writers encounter when drafting their bite-size movies. We’ll consider: How to create immediate engagement with your central character. How to establish the details of your story world without awkward exposition. How to use a contained time frame to raise the stakes. How to manage point of view within each scene to keep us emotionally connected with the protagonist. How to generate an engaging turning point in the story. How to confront your character with CHOICES to ensure your film delivers compelling STORY beats. The secret to delivering endings that pack an emotional punch. There's still time to sign up for your free place at https://lnkd.in/e2psVghm #screenplay #scripts #filmmaking

So, you’ve written a chase scene into your script. There’s running, there’s near-misses, but it feels a bit flat. Whether or not you write to music, it can sometimes help to work out the pacing and levels in your scenes. To help, I’ve put together a playlist of 15 tracks that I think would go great accompanying chase scenes of different types. There’s spies, pandas, video games, and more. https://wix.to/34qSMBn #newblogpost #screenwriting #creativewriting #soundtrack

Tonal dissonance is an important technique that you should apply to write your screenplay. You set the tone of a movie or to be precise the dialogue in such a way that it doesn’t match with what is happening on the screen. For example, Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels’s dialogue has a comedic element in its tone, but visually speaking it's a gangster film. The comedic tone emphasizes the absurdness of the gangster world. So , use a contrasting tone to write your screenplay. #ScreenwritingTips
