Some people on LI are getting an outreach message from a fake hiring manager for a bookkeeper role claiming they work for OceansThree. This is a scam, and this message is not from us. Some ways you can tell these messages are a scam: check that the"hiring manager" has an email from the company, that the company title is correct, be wary of grammatical errors, and be especially wary if they are asking you to go to a link to give them sensitive information etc. We have reported this to LinkedIn and regret this is happening. We do have Director of Marketing and Director of Business Development positions open in the education/workforce development space, so message us if either might be of interest! 😉

I once hired an accounts receivable specialist for an accountant role. On paper, the candidate didn’t have all the must-haves. Experience with with full cycle accounting was a must. After talking to them, I realized their CV didn’t tell the whole story. - Everytime someone from the AP department went on holidays, they would cover for their colleague - When their manager went on holidays, they would take on more senior tasks to help eliviate the workload for their return - Every chance they had to learn and improve their skills, they took - They did full cycle accounting, just not on a weekly basis It was obvious that they were perfect for the role. The hiring manager agreed instantly after meeting the candidate. Your resume should tell a story. Advice for the scatter gun candidate. 🎯 Be relevant – apply for what you want and not just anything. 🎯 Be targeted and specific to your area of expertise. 🎯 If you want to make change, then explain this in your CV or a brief cover letter. If you’re applying for a Management Accountant role, maybe don’t apply for a Purchase Ledger Assistant role too. Certainly not if it’s direct with the same company or through the same recruiter. Clients and recruiters are looking for candidates who actually want their job and not just any job. I do appreciate your circumstance could mean that you are open to anything but by applying for anything, you'll often count yourself out of everything.
