The purpose of Proctor Compaction Test is to find out the Optimum Moisture Content at which soil achieves its Maximum Dry Density or Maximum Unit weight. It was observed that Standard Proctor Test is better suited for smaller projects like construction of small building, garden pathway, small retaining walls etc where loads on the soil are not substantial. But for projects that need heavy compaction of soil such as construction of highways, dams etc, the Standard Proctor Test does not represent the true compaction characteristics.

The Foundation of Success: Proper Site Investigation in Piling Construction - Part 1 Piling, especially mini piling, is vital for ensuring sturdy home foundations. But before any plans are made, thorough site investigation is crucial. Let's explore why. - Soil Conditions: Understanding soil types helps determine the best piling method and dimensions to support the load effectively. - Groundwater Levels: High levels can destabilise soil. Proper assessment ensures piles can be sunk securely. - Obstacles: Urban sites often harbour hidden challenges like underground pipes or remnants of old structures. Careful planning prevents delays and damage. - Environmental Impact: Legal requirements demand consideration of environmental factors. Failure to comply can lead to project delays or cancellation. Stay tuned for Part 2 to learn more about the significance of proper site investigation in piling construction. https://lnkd.in/ePyspi82 #Construction #SiteInvestigation #Piling #Foundation #EnvironmentalImpact

I have a tunnel construction under a river project. My site conditions of water table depth 2 meters below riverbed. Soil type is sandy gravel with high permeability and the tunnel depth is 10 meters below riverbed. And my dewatering objective for lower the table by 5 meter's to allow safe tunnel excavation. So what will be of my dewatering method, design and operation for this to minimize risk of water 🌊 inflow and flooding. 1. How many deep well system, diameter and it's deepth s 2. Pump Capacity etc.

What are Trial Holes? Trial Holes, also known as Trial Pits, are a time-efficient and cost-effective technique utilised to assess soil profiles and groundwater conditions at a given location. They help us assess and confirm shallow-foundation construction where there are existing utilities by deploying bespoke machinery or hand-digging the area. 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗗𝗼 𝗪𝗲 𝗢𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗻 𝗦𝗲𝗲 𝗟𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀𝗹𝗶𝗱𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗛𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀? Landslides and other infrastructure problems in housing projects are unfortunately common. After reflecting on this, I believe some key causes include: 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝗙𝗼𝗰𝘂𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗶𝘁𝘀: Many developers prioritize making money and heavily invest in hiring top talent for marketing and sales, while neglecting to bring in experienced engineers who ensure the quality and safety of the infrastructure. 𝗟𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗼𝗳 𝗚𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁: While authorities issue NOCs, there is often little follow-up to ensure compliance with quality standards during construction. 𝗕𝗮𝗱 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀: Developers often engage contractors with the lowest rates and then delay payments. Instead of cash, contractors are sometimes given plot files— which are difficult to liquidate— as bill adjustments, impacting the quality of work. 𝗕𝘂𝘆𝗲𝗿 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀: Most homebuyers lack technical knowledge and aren't aware of the risks or the quality of the property they’re purchasing. 𝗟𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗼𝗳 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝗰𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆: There is sometimes no rigorous accountability from engineers or developers in ensuring long-term safety, such as through regular inspections and maintenance plans. I’m curious to hear your thoughts! What other issues do you think contribute to these problems? Feel free to share your insights. Lastly, if you are in need of reliable and expert assistance, I highly recommend my friend Engr. M.Arif Iqbal. Landslides pose significant risks to residential areas, particularly when developers use loose filling material. These hazards can endanger lives and lead to severe financial repercussions for homeowners and communities. The cost of repairing landslide damage can be substantial. Homeowners may face extensive repair bills, decreased property values. Developers play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and stability of residential plots. Developers should perform comprehensive geotechnical studies to understand soil behavior and ensure proper filling techniques. Choosing the right filling materials and ensuring proper compaction can significantly reduce the risk of landslides. Why utilize undercutting and replacement on a site when you can install aggregate piers instead? As the Southeast keeps growing, sites not needing improvement are becoming harder to find. Often, undocumented fill or other poor soils result in a recommendation to undercut and replace this soil entirely. By installing aggregate piers, this requirement can often be eliminated. On the below site, only 40 aggregate piers were installed to remove a requirement to undercut the whole site by 15 feet! This approach saved approximately 75% of the site preparation budget and 2-3 weeks of schedule. Reach out to estimating@wbgvibro.com to find out how ground improvement can help your next project succeed. #geotechnicalengineering #groundimprovement #aggregatepiers #stonecolumns #construction #civilengineering
