The body is the primary seat for the development of the sense of self. It is also the primary site for meeting the other. As such, the body imposes itself as both the incarnation of the self’s identity and possibilities, and as the ineluctable proof of our interconnectedness with others. The body is also the site where trauma is registered and may be stored, woven into the body, impacting, for example, how it feels, how it smells, how it looks, yet inaccessible to representation. https://lnkd.in/duMZKNbe

I design systems that return individuals and communities to power and restore humanity’s connection to honesty
Thriving/success/confidence is all tied to the experience of fundamental existence. It is this experience of non-existence that is the center of what we call chronic traumatic states. Not acute trauma that is episodic, but rather an entire life that is hampered by this shadow of nonexistence Join me this week for a conversation on the current system of care and its limits with chronic states

Death is one of the few certainties in life, yet it remains a taboo topic that many shy away from discussing. Sometimes, we even avoid using the word itself, rather resorting to euphemisms. However, the ability to compassionately but competently discuss death is a valuable skill that extends far beyond healthcare and funeral services: professionals such as Financial Advisors Customer Service Representatives Lawyers HR Managers Journalists often find themselves in situations where addressing death is necessary. Being able to navigate these conversations with sensitivity and professionalism is crucial in providing effective service and support to clients, colleagues, and the public. "Destigmatising Death: What should an intervention to destigmatize discussions on death look like?" is an exploration of how design can be used to create a more approachable and proactive dialogue around death, particularly among young people. Initial evaluations suggest the prototypes she developed have the potential to effectively destigmatize conversations about death. The thesis is currently under consideration for the Chapeau Prize. https://lnkd.in/ekqHxJZS Best of luck, Chiara!

When a Black Eye is Not a Black Eye Here are 3 quick tips about emergency department lingo: 1. Raccoon's eyes - this is bilateral black eyes. SURPRISE! This may mean there is trauma to the BACK of the head - it doesn't always mean blows to the face. 2. Battle's Sign - this is the term we use for bruising behind the ears. Just like Raccoon's eyes could be from trauma to the back of the head. 3. ALOC - Altered Level of Consciousness. Could be from anything from intoxication to dementia. Note: This is different than LOC which is loss of consciousness. Standing by to meet your medical legal needs.
