Did you know that every three minutes, a child is born with a cleft lip or palate? Today, let's shine a light on cleft care and the incredible journey of those affected. Cleft lip and palate are common birth conditions that can impact a child's ability to eat, speak, hear, and even breathe properly. Yet, with early intervention and specialized care, these challenges can be overcome. It's essential to spread awareness about the comprehensive care and support needed for individuals born with clefts – from surgical interventions to speech therapy and ongoing medical care. Every child deserves access to the resources and expertise that can transform their lives. Let's support organizations and healthcare professionals dedicated to cleft care, and let's celebrate the resilience and strength of those living with cleft conditions. Child care is at a tipping point, and the question for all of us is in which direction will we lean? Come join the discussion in person or online next Wednesday, February 14. Details below.
Since 2020, Action for Children has been tracking progress on the state of child care in central Ohio and demonstrating how communities can come together on data-informed solutions to the challenges faced. Next week’s forum, hosted by the Columbus Metropolitan Club on February 14th at The Ellis, will focus on the findings from our latest survey report, "The Tipping Point," which brought to light critical issues facing child care providers in central Ohio. In a panel moderated by NBC4 co-anchor, Kerry Charles, Dr. Eric Karolak, and Kara Wente, Director of the Ohio Department of Children and Youth, Aslyne Rodriguez, Director of Government Affairs at the Central Ohio Transit Authority (COTA), and Carol Haynes, Executive Director of Kiddie Academy, will provide insight on how our region can pave the way towards a more equitable and sustainable future for child care – an initiative beneficial for children, parents, and employers alike. Really looking forward to delivering the keynote at CASP this year! Behavior change is hard. Even for behavior analysts, who have lots of education and skills in behavior change techniques. I plan to share some evidence-based strategies for reliably producing measurable improvements...backed up by many years of behavioral scientific research. What the studies don't explain very well is HOW leaders can achieve these results by improving #relationships and #psychologicalsafety on their teams. behavioral #leadership

Family-centred service is a great idea but... what do you do when there's not enough money/time/organizational buy-in/staff support/etc? For those of you attending the #EACD meetings next week, check out #CanChild's course on "Family-Centred Service: Modern Developments". Peter Rosenbaum, Olaf Kraus de Camargo, Rachel Teplicky, Kim Hesketh, and Elizabeth Chambers (nee Zahorchak) will be chatting about: i) what components of care families find important and desirable; ii) where the barriers lie to providing the kind of care we would like to provide; and iii) how we can use approaches from implementation science to address at least some of these barriers.
