Sailesh, what is the one word you would use to describe these last 10 years?” I was asked this just the other day when the Youth of India Foundation office wall was being decorated with pictures from across timelines to showcase our journey of wishing to see change to being the change. And all I did was show them this picture. For me, all these years of putting in countless sleepless nights culminate into the larger meaning of this one moment: doing my part in shaping the leadership of tomorrow to ensure Bharat’s place in the global podium as a Vishwa Guru, to take back our glory snatched by years of colonialism. With our nation being the youngest in terms of population, this isn’t impossible. You know, you can have millions in your bank account and yet not have the satisfaction, the drive, the zeal… or for me, that KICK that makes life worth it. I’ve always needed that rush, and I’ve realized it only comes when I know what I’m doing is CREATING opportunities and change around me. And maybe this sounds a bit self-centered, but trust me when I tell you, humility has been what drove me here. Take it from me, someone who’s seen and been on both sides! My back to the camera in this picture is what allures me, allures some of my friends who tell me this is a GREAT picture, and correlates with my faith in letting the impact make the noise, in what the Scriptures teach me तत्र निरतिशयम् स तदा सर्वार्थानुपस्थानम् ॥, which roughly translates to “In that selfless offering (of one's actions), there is the complete presence of all objects of desire.” From the ‘Pocket Money Campaign’ to aid Nepal during the 2015 catastrophe, right here in this small but strategically important town of Siliguri, to being invited to the United Nations as a representative of the Indian youth, I have come a long way.
