When heading out for a hike in the woods, it's tempting to skip the map and compass and rely on our phones and apps for navigation. Yet when we encounter no signal or lose power, we can find ourselves in a sticky situation. Or perhaps, like me, you've come to rely on popping your destination into the satnav or Google Maps whenever you get in the car and have nearly forgotten the ability to navigate without it. These situations illustrate the paradox of automation, where increasing levels of automation can increase the need for human intervention rather than decrease it. We DO NOT want that! It's been a while since YOLOv10, the successor of YOLO, was released. As I have previously worked on traffic-related projects using YOLOv8, I was excited to test the newly released YOLOv10 models and see how they perform. Here are some insights from my real-world observations: 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲 that I used the 𝘴𝘮𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘮𝘰𝘥𝘦𝘭 and the same 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘧𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘴𝘤𝘰𝘳𝘦 for both YOLOv8 and YOLOv10. 🔍𝗗𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗔𝗰𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘆 1. 𝙔𝙊𝙇𝙊𝙫𝟭𝟬: Shows fewer false predictions and misses fewer objects, making it more reliable for diverse applications. 2. 𝙔𝙊𝙇𝙊𝙫𝟴: Detects more objects, but there are more false predictions. False positive detection is higher in YOLOv8, based on my observations. ⚡𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝙔𝙊𝙇𝙊𝙫𝟭𝟬: Significantly faster, up to 1.5 to 2 times, compared to YOLOv8. This makes YOLOv10 advantageous for real-time tasks, and it uses less processing power. 🔬 𝗦𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗢𝗯𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗗𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝙔𝙊𝙇𝙊𝙫𝟴: Excels in detecting smaller objects, which could be crucial depending on your project's needs. In the video, it's clear that YOLOv10 struggles with smaller objects, while YOLOv8 performs well. Lowering the confidence score for YOLOv10 increases detection but may also introduce some false positives. ----------------------------------------------------------------- The video includes a basic comparison, highlighting specific scenarios such as detecting traffic lights, cars, and pedestrians. It provides valuable insights into the trade-offs between accuracy and speed, which can assist in selecting the appropriate model for different applications. Ultimately, the choice depends on the project's specific preferences and requirements. While YOLOv10 offers blazing speed, in some cases, YOLOv8 still holds its ground.
