In this digital age, computer-aided design (CAD) software dominates the industry, but it is crucial to recognize the significance of analog practices. Embracing the use of physical drawings, handmade models, and traditional construction techniques not only adds depth and authenticity to design, but also fosters innovation and sustainability. Today on the blog, COO Eric Simon and Superintendent Justin Warnock explore why revisiting analog ways in a digital world is essential for the advancement of architecture and construction. 3D axonometric drawings are powerful tools for visualizing complex structures and spaces. Unlike traditional perspectives, they offer a three-dimensional view without distortion, allowing designers to accurately represent dimensions and relationships. This technique is invaluable in architecture and engineering for understanding spatial arrangements and mechanical systems. By employing 3D axonometric views, professionals can communicate intricate design concepts clearly and effectively. Senior Structural Engineer with 10 years of experience in Indian and UK markets, passionate about sustainable design and pioneering computational engineering for a greener, smarter future. GMIstructE
As a structural engineer, I’ve always been fascinated by the complexity and beauty of freeform structures, especially those seen in modern stadiums and parametric architecture. Recently, I’ve been working on modelling a space frame structure. This involved defining a freeform surface, and creating an algorithm for modelling the supporting frame for the freeform, odd-shaped roof. These types of roofs are not only artistically appealing but also pose a significant challenge due to their complex geometry. I’m thrilled to say that I’ve finally produced a render of my work. The journey was filled with countless iterations and improvements, but the result is truly rewarding. This learning has further deepened my appreciation for computational design and its potential to transform the way we approach structural engineering. I’m looking forward to exploring more of this in the future and sharing my journey with you all. Stay tuned for more updates, and as always, I welcome any thoughts or feedback you may have. PS - Some inspiration was drawn from parametric creators. #computationalengineering #parametricengineering #parametricarchitecture #structuralengineering #computationaldesign

There is still no architectural product system manufacturer who understands and engineers patterns for both how they perform in extreme wind and sun exposure and its impact on how the public interacts with the work as well as Parasoleil does. They’ve been teaching architects about the quadrants on the “Pattern Map” for over 10 years. Crystalline-Modular to Continuous-Organic, MESH patterns and Fractal patterns. Each category has it best practices for structural integrity and design that lasts.
