#InternationalDayofForests may have passed, but those in the corrugated industry celebrate our forests every day. Our friends at @ppec_paper wrote a blog clearing up common paper product industry misconceptions with facts about how Canada’s forests are managed, what is harvested, the causes of deforestation, and how paper packaging is made and re-made again and again through recycling. While many other manufacturers focus on common recycling materials like cans, bottles, and paper, we've taken on a more challenging task: recycling hard plastics categorized by codes 2, 5, and 7. These hard plastics can persist in landfills for up to 1,000 years, often finding their way into our trash and waterways. Our commitment to tackling this environmental issue drove us to develop advanced recycling solutions that ensure these materials are properly recycled and kept out of our ecosystems. The plastics industry muddies the waters by saying to recycle everything but the reality is most plastics aren't being recycled. California is moving on this by suing Exxon for false advertising. Reloop Platform is making a series of recommendations for the text of the #PlasticsTreaty as talks on the treaty text are set to resume in Ottawa next week. Our recommendations include improving product design, composition and performance to reduce the use of plastics and harmful chemicals, minimise non-recyclable waste and promote recycling and re-use. Plastic products that not comply with minimum design criteria should be prohibited. Taxes or levies on single-use items should be used to incentivize better design and boost recycling rates and there should be requirements on certification and labelling to demonstrate compliance on design and performance criteria. Countries that need support should receive assistance in shaping policies and laws for effective implementation of a plastics treaty, according to the Reloop recommendations, and there should be international collaboration with national and international organisations to develop standards and guidelines aimed at reducing plastic waste. Reloop calls for rules for governments to prioritise the procurement of products that exclude harmful chemicals, promote durability, and are easy to repair and recycle. And there should be sanctions for businesses if they do not adhere to the terms of a plastics treaty; such sanctions should be applied in the jurisdiction where the breach occurs. These recommendations by Reloop’s waste management experts are proposed changes to clause 5a of the current version of the treaty text, on product design and 5b, covering reduce, reuse, refill and repair of plastics and plastic products. See Reloop's recommendations in detail including suggested text. ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eWxWbwhc #CircularEconomy #BeatPlasticPollution #UNPlasticsTreaty #GlobalPlasticsTreaty

Consider a plastic fence post next time. Plastic fence posts offers many advantages over treated lumber posts. These posts are solid, do not rot, termites and animals don't eat the plastics, they don't leach chemicals, they will last a lifetime, and if you need an electric fence, no insulators are needed. They are made with 100% recycled plastics, so you can support the recycling of plastic waste. Let us help you on your next fence upgrade. #recycling #plasticrecycling #sustainability #fence #ranching #dairyfarming #cattlefarming

As an advanced recycling innovator, we have a keen eye on legislation that will help us scale our technology to divert plastic waste from landfills and our environment. The introduction of the bi-partisan Accelerating a Circular Economy for Plastics and Recycling Innovation Act by Representatives Larry Bucshon (R-IN) and Don Davis (D-NC), aims to modernize the nation’s recycling infrastructure, spur innovation and reduce plastic waste. It recognizes the essential role plastic material plays in our daily lives and the need to develop end markets for recycled material. https://lnkd.in/dCs9-dre #resynergi #circularity #advancedrecycling #circulareconomy #plasticcircularity #plasticrecycling #cleaner #recycling #sustainability #chemicalrecycling
