Double anniversary: The 500th aseptic Krones filler and the 200th product UHT in one line From preform sterilisation to dispensing the sealed PET bottles - for the latest generation of the Contipure AseptBloc (CAB), Krones paid attention to an end-to-end process chain that is aseptically safe down to the smallest detail. An overall concept that has already proven its worth in the past and has won over customers all over the world: “Since the market launch of the updated Contipure AseptBloc around one and a half years ago, more than forty CAB could be sold already. This is a significant proof of the convincing safety and sustainability arguments in the updated solution. So next to the milestone of 500 systems sold based on the full PET Aseptic Portfolio by Krones, we feel the acceptance and appreciation of this very latest Krones solution across the globe,” says Paul Schoenheit, Head of Sales Aseptic Technology. The Brazilian beverage producer Natural One has also opted for the Contipure AseptBloc - and that's a reason to celebrate: the 500th aseptic filler sold by Krones is integrated in the sterile block solution. Nature as inspiration Inspired by the diversity of Brazilian nature, Natural One has specialised in using fresh fruit and vegetables to produce juices in fifteen varieties. Natural One now exports its products from Brazil to around eleven countries. In order to meet the growing demand, the company is now expanding its bottling capacities - and is relying on state-of-the-art technology and expertise from Krones. The Contipure AseptBloc is now part of a new, already third Krones line at Natural One. "Having already covered the continents of America, Europe, Africa and the Asia-Pacific region with our juice products, we now want to reach these regions with our plant-based milk alternatives and CSD products as well, and we decided in favour of the Contipure AseptBloc not only because of its technological advantages. BIB' Story History The first commercial BiB system was invented by American chemist William R. Scholle in 1955 for the safe transportation and dispensing of battery acid.[1] Scholle's invention inspired a "packaging revolution."In 1991, Scholle was inducted into the packaging hall of fame for his invention. Uses BiB has many common commercial applications. Among the most common ones are to supply syrup to soft drink fountains and to dispense bulk supplied condiments such as ketchup or mustard in the foodservice industry (especially in fast food outlets). BiB technology is still used for its original application of dispensing sulfuric acid for filling lead-acid batteries in garages and dealerships. As explained further below, BiBs have also been implemented for consumer applications like boxed wine. For commercial syrup applications, the customer opens one end of the box (sometimes via a pre-scored opening) and connects a compatible connector to a built-in port on the bag to pump out its contents. The port itself contains a one-way valve which opens only under pressure from the attached connector and which prevents contamination of the syrup in the bag. For consumer applications like boxed wine, there is a tap already present on the bag which protrudes through a pre-cut hole on the box, so all the consumer has to do is locate the tap on the outside of the box. Producers like BiB packaging because it is inexpensive. BiB also offers environmental benefits by allowing contents of 1.5–1000 liters, so that less packaging or labeling is required. The material it is made from is lighter than the other plastic alternatives, providing it with a better carbon footprint. Bag-in-box packaging has been widely used in various fields of food, beverage, and industry, becoming one of the fastest-growing packaging formats in the market. BREWING 🍺: Atlas Copco has introduced a new solution for the beer bottling process – the Beer Foam Separator (BFS 900). Built to be used in combination with its industry 4.0 ready GHS VSD+ screw vacuum pump, the addition of the beer foam separator is primed to improve energy efficiency, reduce lifecycle costs and lower the rejection rate of over and underfilled bottles. The beer foam separator was designed and developed in partnership with brewery customers and in direct response to the excess foam production that hampered the beer filling process. "Addressing process concerns for the beer industry effectivity with our innovative capabilities and application expertise is a focus point for us," said Alessandro Villa, Applications Manager, Atlas Copco. Brazil is famous for its colourful and extravagant Carnival, its tropical climate and exotic fruits which are perfect for making delicious juice. Moreover, Brazil is even the biggest producer of orange juice in the world and exports more than 2/3 of the total volume to Europe.🍊 Nevertheless, orange juice is a sensitive beverage, which means that its filling is a true walk on the tightrope. But if it is so difficult, how can drinks like juice even be produced? The solution: 𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗳𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴. Due to glass bottle shortages on the South American market aseptic PET bottle filling solutions become even more important. Especially, square bottles with a 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗳𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗽 are very trendy at the moment and even the European market follows the example of the carafe cap set by Brazil. The cap stands out in the supermarket shelfs and represent a premium article.✨ Nevertheless, they are more difficult to handle, as the neck ring, on which the bottle is normally guided through the filling and capping process, disappears under the bigger and heavier cap. This is where Krones comes into play. The versatile Krones aseptic lines can be adapted - where necessary - to smoothly transfer bottles from neck into base handling so the carafe caps can be applied.🦾 But how does the capping of the bottles actually work now? The solution is: the integrated Krones 𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗰𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗿. This component, closing the bottles before exit of the isolator, is able to meet all the hygienic requirements imaginable and even adds an additional 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘆 𝗹𝗮𝘆𝗲𝗿 by providing every capping head with its own separate servo drive produced by Krones instead of using a mechanical one. All drives are outside the clean room housing and liquid seals seal all of the capper carrousel’s rotational movements.⚙️ The large caps are held by a gripper rather than a chuck while being applied with highest accuracy. The 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗽𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗔𝘀𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗕𝗹𝗼𝗰 uses cameras to inspect the caps even before the sterilization process📷.
