Excellent second day here in Vienna at the Disaster Research Days 2024 #DRD24, including an insightful panel on "Strength in Unity: Empowering Communities for Resilient Futures." Here, the need was emphasized to include positive messaging in disaster preparedness and resilience communication as well as to consider (general public, volunteer, and first responder) security cultures in public communication strategies.
Our Embry-Riddle Worldwide College of Arts & Sciences contributes to meet such requirements through the new Crisis, Risk, and Resilience Communication track in our online B.S. in Communication as well as a new Crisis, Risk, and Resilience Communication online undergraduate minor. As well, the need for certification programs for volunteers was emphasized as in catastrophic events, professional first responders need to be able and willing to assign critical tasks to trusted competent volunteers. In the Department of Emergency, Disaster and Global Security Studies of our Embry-Riddle Worldwide College of Arts & Sciences, we have a brand new online undergraduate certificate in Emergency Management Leadership that is based on a whole-community approach.
