Open Call: The Disaster Club Attention all makers, creators, and visionaries! Within the artist’s process, success is often seen as a measurable achievement. Especially, young creators foster a competitive atmosphere through the use of social media to achieve an aesthetic end product. But didn’t we all learn at the academy that it’s about the process? About our self-expression and authenticity? About innovation and experimentation? “The Disaster Club” is a two-day exhibition where makers are challenged to showcase and discuss their ‘disasters’ and ‘unfinished business’ with the public. During this exhibition, we highlight all projects considered as ‘not good enough’, ‘failed’, or ‘not yet finished’, paying tribute to the creative process of young, emerging, and promising creators. 🧷 Submission Guidelines: * Creators working in all media are encouraged to submit their work. * Applicants must be between the ages of 18 and 27, have a connection to North Brabant and are currently studying or have studied in the field of art, design or culture. * Alter Expo provides honorarium and production budget. * All applications must be sent via the open call form (link in bio). 🧷 Important Dates: * Applications deadline: May 22 * Notification of acceptance: May 27 * Exhibition dates: June 29 & 30 🧷 Exhibition Venue: The Pool, Sectie-C 🧷 About Alter Expo: Alter Expo is a collective by and for young creators, creating a platform for the presentation of young, emerging talents, and crucial stories. Alter Expo is dedicated to promoting contemporary art that challenges conventional boundaries and encourages critical thinking. Through our exhibitions and programs, we aim to create a platform for dialogue, experimentation, and cultural exchange. 🧷 Selection Process: Submitted artworks will be reviewed by our curatorial team, which will select pieces based on artistic merits, relevance to the theme, and overall coherence within the exhibition’s context. For questions or more information, please contact us at info@alterclub.nl We look forward to hearing your disasters! ____ Artwork by Kris van Gendt Supported by Cultuur Eindhoven JONG https://lnkd.in/exEKNZNT

Exciting News: Creating a Mini Museum for My Students! Hello, LinkedIn community! I am thrilled to share a project I've been dreaming of for a long time: building a mini museum for my students this year. I’ve already secured some display cases from a jewelry store, but I need your help deciding what to showcase. Here are my two ideas: 1. Local History Exhibit: Featuring physical artifacts from our local area. This would be easier to source but might have a more limited scope. 2. Reproductions of Iconic Museum Pieces: Displaying replicas of famous artifacts that my students might not have the chance to see until adulthood. Regardless of the theme, students will work in small groups to analyze the artifacts and answer questions based on the information provided. Which option do you think would have the most impact on our students' learning experience? I would love to hear your feedback and any other ideas you might have! Thank you for your support! #Education #MuseumEducation #StudentEngagement #TeachingInnovations #LocalHistory #Artifacts #HandsOnLearning #LearningThroughExperience #EdTech #K12Education

Last night, I had the privilege of presenting research at Valparaiso University's Christ College (Honors College) Student Scholar Symposium. My research presentation titled, "Art and Technology as a Means Towards Communally Beautiful Experiences: Exploring the Relationship Between Art & Technology through the Infinite Crystal Universe," focused on the relationship between art and technology in the modern world concerning beauty, and how these concepts are exemplified in TeamLab's piece, The Infinite Crystal Universe. I want to thank Christ College -- The Honors College for this opportunity and experience, and also extend appreciation to teamLab Inc. for creating such captivating works that impact the world of art and design. To quote the end of my essay and presentation: "The Infinite Crystal Universe, offers a multitude of lenses through which we can see how the collision of art and technology can produce immersive beauty. Encounters with new mediums featuring technology offer us to see parallels between our own experiences, our ability to draw connections between the past, present and future, and most of all, find beauty through the emotions evoked while stepping into an all-encompassing art piece. It is with pieces like The Infinite Crystal Universe that we can hold excitement for the future and how we might find new ways to experience beauty as creative technology continues to expand. Thus, when people talk about the fear of how technology in art might hinder our future, upon closer inspection, they might find that technology in art could be something that brings us together during modern times as we unite to experience and make sense of it together." #undergraduateresearch #installationart #Scholarship

Experienced Education Professional Excited to Begin Contributing to an Education Department at an Informal Education Setting
"The fusion of #science and #art opens doors to possibilities beyond our imagination. Experimental performance and talk by Yoko Shimizu, contemporary #artist and biochemistry researcher . The fusion of science and art open doors to possibilities beyond our imaginations. Yoko spent her childhood growing up in New York. She studied bio-chemistry at university, and the art that she encountered while in New York left a deep and lasting impression on her. These two elements were the starting point for her activities in science as well as a contemporary artist. She has won many awards both at home and abroad for her artworks created from her own unique perspective, and has held exhibitions in countries around the globe. While also active as a DJ and simultaneous interpreter, she has created an art that through the use of various forms of media, gives you a sense of familiarity with her pieces. With all the possibilities encompassing the fusion of science and art, who knows what the future might hold." (2015) In this engaging TEDX talk, Shimizu presents three artworks that are clearly based in science. I know that students who view these pieces will automatically ask many questions, including, "How does that work?" I propose that students think of their own similar artworks. Have them research scientific phenomena that they can use to generate an artwork. Allow them to create their pieces and present them along with the answer to, "How does that work?" What would you create? I encourage you to share your thoughts in the comments.#STEAMEducation https://lnkd.in/gCppawBR
