Yesterday’s event was truly enlightening, and I want to extend my warmest thanks to everyone who joined us for this important conversation. It was a privilege to sit around the table with three incredible speakers: Kelly Thompson (Duffin), co-CEO of Incredo, Christina Schwab, PhD Director from dsm-firmenich Venturing, and Gil Horsky🎗️ Managing partner of FLORA Ventures. Together, we tackled some of the world’s most pressing challenges; diabetes, obesity, and diseases linked to malnutrition, a huge challenge Incredo is purposely addressing with its exclusive sugar based reduction technology. Kelly shared inspiring reflections on leading Incredo through a tumultuous year, especially in the wake of the events of October 7th. Her story highlighted the resilience and strength of the entire team as they navigated this crisis, showing just how deeply committed and adaptable the workforce has been. Gil emphasized the crucial role of the foodtech industry, stating, "The foodtech industry is as important as ever, given it tackles the two biggest challenges we face—human and planetary health." His insights underscored the need for continued innovation in this space. Christina shared her admiration for the resilience of Israeli tech, stating, "The Israeli companies in my portfolio outperform, even in the most challenging environments. Their agility, resilience, and commitment to innovation are truly remarkable, making them leaders in addressing the evolving needs in foodtech." Insights and highlighted key areas of focus, including the need to address the fiber gap in American diets and the growing demand for sustainable plant-based proteins were also shared yesterday. As active investors and board members in Incredo, the four of us share a commitment to driving meaningful change and supporting companies that address these global health challenges. How do you recap a year like 2024? 🎢For us, this year has been a rollercoaster, but we believe our journey reflects the broader shifts and challenges in the #foodtech industry. Here’s a look back: 🥼January 2024 – We kicked off the year with the opening our new lab in Ramat Yishai after realizing we are not going back north. Excitement mixed with sadness, as we are learned to cope with in Israel, almost on a daily basis. 📊April 2024 – As interest in cultivated meat waned, we pivoted to meet a growing demand for fermentation-based solutions, focusing on reducing protein purification costs. The shift underscored the adaptability required in an industry where trends move fast. 💵Summer 2024 – We began fundraising amidst a global slowdown in foodtech investments, compounded by the challenges of the current situation in Israel. In the middle of the summer we experienced “the perfect storm.” 🥂September 2024 – We celebrated receiving a significant grant from the Israel Innovation Authority, a moment of validation. However, the challenge of securing matching funds reminded us that every milestone comes with its hurdles. 🤩December 2024 – We’re thrilled to end the year on a high note, finalizing a bridge round! Healthkart has raised $153 million in its latest funding round, Aryaman Gupta reports for Business Standard. The secondary funding was led by ChrysCapital and Motilal Oswal Alternates. Neo Group and HealthKart’s existing investor A91 Partners participated as well, while Avendus Capital was present as the exclusive financial advisor, says the report. The company plans to enhance their top products and venture into international markets. Arpit Vinayak, Vice-President, ChrysCapital, says that the Indian sports nutrition market is set to grow due to a rise in fitness awareness and the increasing importance of nutrition and protein.
