👷 This week, we published our Annual Innovation Report for 2023-24, showcasing the significant progress made across our Network Innovation Allowance (NIA), Strategic Innovation Fund (SIF) and some of our Business Innovation project. 💡 The report showcases our commitment to delivering a safer, smarter, greener, and faster network through innovation, detailing our progress in key projects aligned to our Innovation Strategy. 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝗱𝗲: ⚡️ We achieved a 100% success rate with SIF applications in the last year, with £4.8m awarded to SSEN Transmission through the Ofgem and UKRI fund. 'Weightless' battery stores energy directly in carbon fiber structures. Building on the trailblazing carbon-fiber-as-a-battery work started at Sweden's Chalmers University of Technology, deep-tech startup Sinonus is working to commercialize a groundbreaking new breed of multifunctional carbon fiber. In its vision, the wonder-composite will save weight not merely because of its famously low base weight but because it will double as a set of energy-managing electrodes, becoming a structural battery that cuts reliance on the traditional standalone battery pack. ⚡️ Neohytech's power generator, backed by LIAA Technology Business Centre's Prototech programme, offers an innovative energy production alternative. 🔌 The product is a unique #hydrogengenerator that requires aluminum and alkaline water to operate. A chemical reaction in the reactor produces hydrogen, which is stored and converted into #electricity. As a by-product, the reaction also releases heat. It should be mentioned that the generator is noise and CO2-emission-free, making it suitable for indoor use. 🙌 Future plans involve advancing the product's technological development to elevate its TRL (Technology Readiness Level), enabling its transition into production and operational phases.
