October’s thought question: How has the nonprofit field changed during your career? We started the month at Little Flower with our annual celebration of milestone anniversaries for our staff team. Our longest-serving staff member, Sandy Davis, just celebrated her 45th anniversary at Little Flower! She has seen our wonderful organization through so many seasons and changes, and we are lucky to be her colleagues. This month also marked my 26th anniversary working in the nonprofit field. In my years in this field, I have seen evolution too – it is more data-driven, more corporate, more regulated, with a more complex external environment. But a lot hasn’t changed, especially that the best and brightest mission-driven thinkers are drawn to the field, often sacrificing pay and opportunities they could have gotten in other professions. There have also been many consistent themes over the decades, especially the importance of governance, strategy, risk management, leadership transition, and crisis response big and small – which are each interesting and multi-layered. I plan to share my thoughts on each of these areas and more with a monthly post – I'd welcome your feedback and shared experience!

𝐌𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐀𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐝: 𝟏.𝟔 𝐘𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬 𝐚𝐭 𝐕𝐄𝐆𝐑𝐎𝐖 Today marks 1.6 years of working as part of the data team at VEGROW , and the journey has been incredibly rewarding. During this time, I’ve gained invaluable experience and learned so many new things that have helped me grow both professionally and personally. When I joined VEGROW, I wasn’t aware of the extent of what I could achieve. But through the various projects and challenges, I’ve gained the confidence to take on leadership roles. I’ve had the opportunity to collaborate with different teams, including cross-functional ones, which has been instrumental in understanding diverse work styles and approaches. Key Experiences: • 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: Leading projects and working with different teams has taught me how to navigate various personalities and work styles. This has been crucial in overcoming hurdles and solving complex problems. • 𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐭𝐡: Setting up data pipelines, sharing data across teams, and making data analysis accessible have been key aspects of my role. These tasks have not only improved my technical skills but also contributed to the better performance of the business. • 𝐁𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭: Helping the team generate insights that drive business decisions has been particularly fulfilling.
