The Power of Public Service: A Personal Reflection from Naval Boot Camp Graduation On August 22, I had the honor of watching my son-in-law graduate from Naval Boot Camp at Great Lakes Recruit Training Command (RTC). Seeing him and his fellow sailors take their oath to serve our country filled me with immense pride and brought home the true meaning of sacrifice, commitment, and honor. Having spent a good part of my own career in public service, with time in law enforcement and government, I’ve always believed in the power of dedicating oneself to something greater. While my days of serving in the military have long passed, attending this ceremony reminded me that the spirit of service is something that never leaves you. It’s a lifelong commitment that continues to shape who you are and how you contribute to the world. Tomorrow, Sept. 5, is regarded as International Day of Charity, and I ask you to reflect on the many ways you can give back, no matter where you are in life. Whether it’s volunteering, supporting a cause, or simply lending a hand to someone in need, every act of service counts. Afterall, public service is more than just a career—it’s about being there for others, in both big and small ways. Watching my son-in-law recently step, or rather, march, into his new role reinforced the idea that while we may not all wear a uniform, we each have the capacity to serve. So, let’s consider how we can make a difference in our communities and positively impact the lives of those around us. #USNavy #Service #PublicService #LeadershipLessons #ExecutiveInsights #GivingBack #InternationalDayofCharity #Leadership #MilitaryPride #ServiceMatters #MakeADifference #Volunteer #Nonprofit

They should use this book at Capstone! Great work, Greg. We need more CJs in the DoD! We owe it to the kids who are reading this book to deliver a viable CJADC2 solution that enables decision advantage for commanders in the next big fight. They will be the ones that suffer if we don’t. #cjadc2
Robert Morrissey and I created Penny the Pentagon, a children's book about the Pentagon's mission, as a fun project to share with our young kids. The Pentagon and the DoD mission have been a part of our lives for over 15 years. Thanks to all of your support, we’ve been able to donate $6,000 to Navy and USMC educational charities. https://lnkd.in/ex3_QRsu As we received feedback about Penny the Pentagon, several people suggested creating a children’s book that explains CJADC2. While we didn’t initially think there would be a large audience of kids for this topic 😊, we decided it would be an interesting project. After many months, we finally finished it. Special thanks to DALL-E for the illustrations! We can’t wait to hear your feedback! We got a lot of CJADC2 inspiration from the following and many more: Chris Scrapper Matt Strohmeyer Joe OCallaghan David Spirk Shyam Sankar Madeline Zimmerman Akash J. John Waterston Justin Fanelli Alex O'Toole Cody Ferguson Alaleh Jenkins Kathleen M. David Norquist Jane Overslaugh Rathbun Alfred H. Artem Nesterko Randal Cole Alicia Scott David Magjuka Shannon Boykin Markus Rogers Michael LeBreton Charleen L. Daniel Leventry #dod #cjadc2 #army #navy #usmc #airforce #logistics #spaceforce

I stumbled across a Givers, Doers, & Thinkers podcast episode featuring Marcus Ruzek and a couple of the things he said regarding the military --> civilian transition really stuck out. To paraphrase: 1) Approximately 200,000 people transition out of the military every year and each one of them- regardless of their age, rank, and experience- go through nearly the exact same Transition Assistance Program. 2) The mililtary does an incredible job of taking someone off the street and training them to be a warrior. But, as Ruzek said, "nobody trained us to take the uniform off and move on." Our nation has had a standing military for more than 230 years and, even now on the heels of our longest war, government heads have yet to effectively and efficiently identify and/or support the needs of our service members and their families. And so we'll do it. The nonprofits and foundations; the givers, doers, and thinkers. It's an honor and an imperative. #GiversDoersThinkers #PhilanthropyDaily #United4MilitaryFamilies #Nonprofit
