On this day in 1990, the ADA was signed into law, marking a historic victory for disability rights. It paved the way for progress, tearing down barriers and creating a more inclusive society for millions. But our work isn't done. Let's celebrate how far we've come while continuing to champion accessibility, advocate for inclusion, and ensure that every individual has the opportunity to thrive. Some serious facts here, PDF link to the actual document, and additional references. https://lnkd.in/dtJ5PwpZ Project 2025, a sweeping right-wing blueprint for a new kind of GOP presidency, threatens to sabotage science-based policies addressing climate change, the environment, abortion, health care access, equal rights, education and veteran's benefits. These new "policies", including imposing such extreme religious and conservative ideology on the federal civil service to advance a Christian nationalist agenda, are so extensive that even Trump has, dubiously, tried to distance himself from the plan. However there is documented proof/facts/social media/videos that show otherwise. In 2022, Trump endorsed the Heritage Foundation—the think tank behind Project 2025—stating it would “lay the groundwork and detail plans for exactly what our movement will do.” Although Trump is not among its 34 authors, more than half are appointees and staff from his presidency; the document mentions "Trump" and "Trump Administration" 312 times. At least 140 former Trump officials are involved, making it reasonable to expect a second Trump presidency to follow many of these recommendations. Agenda 47, the RNC Platform, and Project 2025 are essentially the same playbook —just worded differently due to backlash. Project 2025 represents a dramatic backward step, undermining decades of progress in equal rights, particularly for women and vulnerable populations, environmental conservation, public health protections, and democratic guardrails. Read about a recent case revealing lapses in compliance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) by the Los Angeles Unified School District. In January 2020, the district failed to provide a clear placement offer for a student with profound hearing loss, impacting parental participation in the IEP process. The district court affirmed key findings, emphasizing the need for clarity in services for students with disabilities. Well worth reading, including for the time line of the fight back after back door lobbying by the social media companies led to the failure to implement the age checking legislation (In the Digital Economy Act) promised by David Cameron if UK industry could demonstrate how they could check whether a user was over or under a given age without individuals having to disclose their identity. The solutions they came up, including one way hashes from credit reference and similar databases, ran counter to the business models of social media companies whose business models depend on collecting and selling data on their users.
