Happy Friday!!😀 IT'S FUNNY SIGNS FRIDAY.......😂 Author | C. Knighten Snoop Dog did a great job this summer during the Summer Olympics, held in France. Every time he was on camera he was laughing, interviewing and having a great time! He is actually quite engaging and has truly transformed his career over time. From Rap Star to Cooking Maven, when he joined Martha Stewart. They brought a whole new feel to the current cooking shows being featured, with Snoop and Martha's Pot Luck Dinners. And he didn't stop their.....his career has been a muti- universe of variety......he owns his original record label.....he and Martha Stewart started their own wine company-19 Crimes- and later he developed a line a drink mixers with Dr. Dre named, Gin and Juice...after his infamous rap song! HIs most recent appearances in the 2020 and 2024 Olympics has delivered another level.....from carrying the Torch to serving as a Special Correspondent for NBC, he has proven that nothing will keep this Dogg down. Both his life and career have been quite diverse and multi-faceted!! The great importance of his success....is much like that of Jelly Roll.....never let anything in your life, your past be what defines you.....you have a right to a great life and can always stive to be better!! Happy Monday!! 😀 FOOD FOR THOUGHT! ( IT'S COLUMBUS DAY | INDIGENOUS PEOPLE'S DAY!! ) Author | C. Knighten Each October 14th we celebrate Christopher Columbus.......however, due to his documented atrocities committed toward the Native Indians here in the America's, several states, like California, Colorado, Minnesota and New York no longer celebrate him. Their position on this is valid...... Columbus' men would often plunder Native villages taking their supplies and imprisoning them for labor, sex and many were sold into slavery in Europe. It is horrific to consider how they were abused and mistreated. In that day, unfortunately, when you didn't speak English it was assumed that you were a savage and therefore, taken advantage of. Note, that this is a consistent issue throughout historic societies.....we do not celebrate him because of his lack of knowledge and utter ignorance, but instead for what he did achieve. HISTORY OF COLUMBUS DAY: In 1792, a lynching actually prompted declaring Columbus Day as a holiday to appease outraged Italian immigrants, after a mob murdered 11 Italians. Then, President Benjamin Harrison declared" Columbus Day" as a one-time national celebration. This effort was made to placate Italian immigrants and eventually, politicians, poets, preachers and teachers developed a story surrounding his discovery of America as a patriot. In 1966, Mariano A. Lucca, from Buffalo, NY, founded the National Columbus Day Committee, which lobbied to make Columbus Day a federal holiday. Lucca succeeded and Columbus Day became a federal holiday in 1968. Many of our former heroes, many patriots and many of our founding fathers, all did things in their day and time that were considered normal, necessary for the greater good. It took 400 years for Columbus to be celebrated at all.....and only 56 years to change our perspective on him being a patriot to becoming a villain! History overall, is there to help us understand our mistakes, so that they are not repeated. It is there and should be read and understood, so we can make better choices, more advanced choices. If at the end of the day we continue to make the same mistakes, to ostracize a part of our society because they are different or to criminalize the right to a 'difference of opinion".....have we actually advanced or are we no better than Columbus? Knighten All during the month of October, we open our hearts to helping those unfortunate, yet ever hopeful fur babies waiting for a furever home! Promoted and sponsored by The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), Adopt a Shelter Dog Month coordinates with the American Humane Society to celebrate the month-long campaign to adopt! Our local shelters make it a priority to match dogs with compatible owners based on the best environment to support the dog’s needs and place them in a loving home! Nationwide there are between 5,000 and 10,000 community animal shelters, rescue groups and animal sanctuaries. However, hurricane Helene has left both home owners and shelters in unlivable conditions. Many homes have been evacuated along with several shelters. There are animals here and across the nation looking for a loving home or a foster who will give them a chance to live under more normal conditions. Please give consideration to helping in whichever form you can: Adopt a loving dog to bring into your family! Foster a puppy or an older dog and give them the love they deserve. You have a heart but no time....please donate what you can. He has a gift for addressing the obvious 'white elephant' in the room without pointing fingers! Indeed, intelligence is awesome......and the truth is....it is typically those who are very insecure that feel it necessary to flaunt their intelligence, accomplishments, money or possessions! Honestly, it is very sad in some ways.....to feel so insecure that things define who you are? I, personally, am ready for people to start seeing other "people" again! In other words, I see you as a human being......your color, race, identity preferences, chosen profession, car you drive, clothes you wear.....they do NOT define who you are to me! And, frankly, I know many people who feel the same way! How you treat others, how you respect others.....how you respect yourself.....is much more important to me. Now, as for your underwear.....I don't want to see it....I don't care if you wear Calvin Kleins, Hanes or any other brand.....I would like to see your pants pulled up and no underwear exposed. Have you ever considered how you would run if you needed to.....I mean, what if there is a Zombie🧟🧟♂️🧟♀️ Apocalypse and the hoard is coming?? Happy Wednesday!!😀 IT'S NATIONAL COFFEE☕ WITH A COP👮♂️ DAY! Author | C. Knighten The very first Coffee with a Cop Day was held on October 7, 2016. However, the idea was first proposed in 2011 by the Hawthorne Police Department in California, as a way to build better relationships with their community. The first event was a casual gathering where police and community members could build relationships and discuss community issues over coffee ad their local McDonalds. During the event, Officers hear from the community about their security challenges and needs. The community liaises with their security officers, not just as public officers but also as allies in protecting and caring for the people of their town. If crime is to be abated, both the community and police officers must work together. Today, we celebrate Coffee with a Cop in all 50 states and it has become one of the most successful community-oriented policing programs in the United States. Breaking through the barriers of communication between officers and citizens is one of the major focuses for every community. Surprisingly, this celebration has expanded outside our borders to include: Canada, Europe, Australia, Africa and Latin America! GREAT WAYS TO CELEBRATE NATIONAL COFFEE WITH A COP DAY! ☕Missed going to White Bison Coffee this morning? Take coffee and biscuits to your local station! ☕Show your Gratitude! Bake a cake or pick one up...either way, you can drop it off at your local station. ☕Send a 'thank-you' note! Gratitude is always a great way to let others know you care and appreciate them! Sadly, and just like in all professions....there are great cops and some who aren't so great. However, it is very important that we realize the great ones, far outweigh those who are not so great.....so supportive of your local police departments. Knighten Observed in October of each year, since 1986, the objective is built around showing people how they can work together in creating sustainable, carbon-neutral, and inclusive cities and towns. Today is a reminder that we have control over the environment that we live in..... from reducing carbon monoxide emissions and observing proper waste management, to controlling urban greenhouse gases. Protecting the ecosystem we live in should be a top priority! History of World Habitat Awareness Month Dating back to 1946, a year after the WWII ended, group of ex-servicemen founded the East Midlands Housing Association (E.M.H.A.), led by Peter Elderfield. Their goal was to provide subsidized social housing and sell affordable residential homes. “There is no shortage of housing problems – what is needed are solutions,” Elderfield said. In 1976, the E.M.H.A. was replaced by the Building and Social Housing Foundation (B.S.H.F.)., with a focus on continuing their legacy. Their success has allowed them to build a global network of partnerships, including the United Nations Human Settlements Program (U.N.-Habitat). Every year, World Habitat Awareness Month is hosted by a different city from all around the world with a specific theme. The first event in 1986 was held in Nairobi, Kenya, with the theme ‘Shelter is my Right.’ GREAT WAYS TO CELEBRATE WORLD HABITAT AWARENESS MONTH: 🏡Raise Awareness! You know.....Laughter The Best Medicine, Humor in Uniform🪖 and Life in These United States! I loved reading them......laughing is healthy!! The more you laugh, the healthier you are. Why?? HEALTH BENEFITS OF LAUGHTER: 🔺Initiates a great intake of oxygen-rich air. 🔺Stimulates your heart, lungs and muscles. 🔺Increases the endorphins released by your brain. 🔺Soothes tension. 🔺Increases and decreases your blood pressure 🔺Activates and relieves your stress response! Smiling and laughing often makes you more approachable and therefore, you will be happier as you relax and open the doors to making new friends! As we get older, the truth about wrinkles is that you cannot avoid them....however, it is a proven scientific fact, that smiling uses fewer muscles than frowning...so, given a choice.? Knighten Flying straight in from Metropolis, National Comic Book Day arrives with a sonic boom ( I couldn't use the planet Krypton...it exploded in 1948!)! Today is September 25th and we celebrate this day to bring awareness to the many wonderful and awful characters playing on both sides of the law, who have filled our imaginations and now grace our movie theatres! HISTORY OF COMIC BOOKS: From it's meager beginnings, this genre has now grown into graphic novels, and countless movie adaptations. First landing in America, in 1842 with the arrival of the Swiss Comic, The Adventures of Mr. Obadiah Oldbuck, comics planted themselves into our daily lives. In the early 20th century, proto-comics began appearing as standard-sized comic books beginning with Funnies on Parade. In 1938, Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster ushered in the 'Golden Age of Comics" when they introduced the world to Superman🦸! Once a small player, was turned into a major industry! During this era or possible nuclear war and atomic power, the characters featured in comic books, helped ease the minds of children, according to Historian Michael A. Amundson. FOUR MAJOR ERAS OF COMIC BOOKS: 🔺The Golden Age | 1938-1954 The beginning of the genre'. 🔺The Silver Age | 1956-early 1970's Arrives with the successful debut of the Flash! 🔺The Bronze Age | 1970's - 1986 Marvel Comics revolutionizes the medium with the introductions of the Fantastic Four and Spider-Man! 🔺The Modern Age of Comics | 1986 - Present While this era flourished, it is often called the Dark Age of Comic Books, due the of many titles with serious content, such as Batman: The Dark Knight Returns and Watchmen. NOTE: Steve Geppi, the founder of Diamond Comics, however proposes that there should be additional eras added to the timeline. Two prior to the Golden Age, called: Victorian Age: 1828 to 1882 | Platinum Age: 1882 to 1938. And the following: Atom Age: 1946 to 1956 | Copper Age: 1986 to 1992 | Chrome Age: 1992 to 1999.
