At CottonConnect, our vision is to reimagine the future of supply chains by fostering equal recognition, involvement, and investment in the empowerment of both men and women. This year's theme, "Invest in Women, Accelerate Progress," resonates deeply with this mission.   Alison Ward, CEO of CottonConnect, captures the essence of our efforts: ‘We felt that it is important to put women at the centre of our programme, as they perform essential tasks—from sowing to harvesting—that add value to the cotton crop, but often, it is the men who get the training, reward, and recognition. Through targeted training, we're empowering women to stand taller, more confident, and prouder.   In the last ten years, we have worked closely with many remarkable women farmers. Happy International Women’s Day 2024 to The Unsung Heroes- "Inspire Inclusion," We confront longstanding power imbalances entrenched in patriarchal societies, impacting women farmers globally. Despite the women farmers comprising 60% - 70% of the agricultural labor force, they face multifaceted challenges hindering productivity and contribution to food security. Stemming from Patriarchal norms which limit their access to resources and perpetuate gender-based violence. Service delivery gaps exacerbate these systemic inequalities, including inadequate access to inputs, technologies, and exclusion from decision-making spaces. "Inspire Inclusion" urges systemic change, advocating for equity and amplifying marginalized voices. The need for intentional concerted action by all concerned is implied in the mantra of "Inspire Inclusion". Government leaders and stakeholders must ensure land rights, financial access, and value chain integration for women farmers.
