How do our R&D departments make sure their designs are fully castable? 🤔 👉 Simulations enable them to test the casting process virtually during the early stages of development, and help them identify any possible defects and the right process design, thereby saving time and materials. Our latest innovation is a special nickel alloy resulting from collaboration between the R&D departments of SIJ Acroni and SIJ Metal Ravne, Institute of Metals and Technology//Inštitut za kovinske materiale in tehnologije, and TC Livarstvo d.o.o. 🏭 This special nickel alloy boasts excellent corrosion resistance, making it suitable for the most aggressive corrosive environments, where high temperatures and stresses are present. Its applications span across various industries, including the industrial heating industry, petrochemical furnace tubes, the hydrocarbon processing industry, and the power generation industry. 📩 For further details reach out to our Head of SIPREME introduction project Danijel Mitrović, PhD, Head of R&D PMO at danijel.mitrovic@sij.si. #SIJGroup #SIJMetalRavne #SIJAcroni #Innovations #SteelInnovation #Metallurgy #MetallurgicalEngineering #DurableSteel #DurabilityMatters #Durability #SustainableSteel #SteelManufacturer #SteelProduction #SteelSupplier

Strong Metals – Strong Manufacturing! Refractory metals, such as molybdenum (Mo) and tungsten (W), are known for their special properties: a high melting point, outstanding mechanical strength at high temperatures, good electrical and thermal conductivity and excellent corrosion resistance. These properties make them ideal materials for demanding industrial applications in various sectors such as the semiconductor industry, power electronics, electromobility and the energy industry. Plansee is a leading global manufacturer of molybdenum and tungsten components that opted for a customized system from AMCM tailored to its needs, as no standardized system on the market could meet its requirements. To be able to produce components out of these materials with low defect rate using laser powder bed fusion (LPBF), a combination of three success factors is required: ➧ Specially designed powders (for improved chemical and physical properties) ➧ Adapted process control of the LPBF system including downstream processes ➧ An LPBF system with an elevated process temperature in the installation space, a low-oxygen process atmosphere and continuous inert powder handling The interaction of these three success factors has been intensively investigated at Plansee. In close cooperation with AMCM, a customized LPBF system based on the EOS M 290 was developed and put into operation at Plansee. The AMCM system is a very important milestone for Plansee in the development of additive manufacturing processes, enabling it to manufacture increasingly complex assemblies from high-performance materials. One application example are the W-Nozzles for gas inlets for high temperature-furnace. Due to the special design, gas can flow into, and no radiation heat will get out of the furnace. These nozzles help to save heating energy in Plansee designed furnaces. Interested in such parts? . Article Title: Impact of scandium and terbium on the mechanical properties, corrosion behavior, and biocompatibility of biodegradable Mg-Zn-Zr-Mn alloys . This study investigated the impact of adding rare earth elements (REEs), specifically scandium (Sc) and terbium (Tb), on the corrosion resistance, mechanical properties, and biocompatibility of MZZM (Mg–0.5Zn–0.35Zr–0.15Mn) alloys fabricated via casting and extrusion. The results demonstrated that the addition of Sc and Tb enhanced the compressive strength and reduced the corrosion rate of the MZZM alloy compared to the untreated alloy. Furthermore, these alloying elements did not exhibit any adverse effects on the viability of SaOS2 cells. . . . 🔬 𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐋𝐌𝐃 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐥𝐚𝐲𝐞𝐫 𝐛𝐞𝐭𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐂𝐮𝐀𝐥10 (𝐜𝐨𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐲) 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐇13? 🔬 Our process parameters have shown robust metallurgical bonding between copper and H13 tool steel. Tensile testing revealed that all three parts failed in the CuAl10 region, which is softer than H13. This indicates that the interface bonding is stronger than the CuAl10 material itself. This innovation is set to improve applications requiring enhanced thermal cooling efficiency without altering the existing design. Are you game enough to try out this innovation? It is amazing what is revealed through our simulations. If you are leading the Decarbonization Transformation of your plant, this case study of ArcelorMittal Europe - Eisenhüttenstadt reveals some crucial insights. A first simulation by Fesios showed that there was a potential threat of a 16% decrease in productivity with the initial green steel melt shop concept. We also revealed that tundish costs would increase by 21% due to slower tap-to-tap times of the EAFs and insufficient Secondary Metallurgy capacity. Based on these initial results, eight potential plant configurations were developed which we studied extensively. The scenarios included: - One vs. two EAF operation - Revamping of the existing LF - Additional LF And we fine-tuned the details with variations in: - Different hot metal production levels - Varying EAF charging mix - Updated process times and routes due to EAF steel - Changes to the product mix Utilizing FESIOSim, we simulated and rigorously tested all eight plant concepts, uncovering and addressing various issues on the way and presented them to AMEH steel plant experts. Through this iterative process, we developed refined conclusions and a final comparison. We provided AMEH with detailed results and insights for each configuration, ensuring a realistic projection for the plant's future. This isn't just about uncertainty; it's about a once in a lifetime transformation. From the initial doubts to strategic certainty, FESIOS is proud to be a vital part of AMEH’s journey towards a more efficient and sustainable future. Curious about how our simulations can guide your green steel transformation? Let's schedule a meeting to explore how FESIOS can put you on the optimal track for your future steel plant. #LSFerroalloy #Ferrosilicon (#FeSi) is a #ferroalloy having iron (Fe) and silicon (Si) as its main elements. The ferro-alloy normally contains Si in the range of 15 % to 90 %. Fe-Si is produced industrially by carbo-thermic reduction of silicon dioxide (SiO2) with carbon (C) in the presence of iron ore, scrap iron, mill scale, or other source of iron. The smelting of Fe-Si is a continuous process carried out in the electric submerged arc furnace with the self-baking electrodes. Fe-Si is mainly used during #steelmaking and in #foundries for the production of C steels, #stainlesssteels as a deoxidizing agent and for the alloying of #steel and #castiron. It is also used for the production of silicon steel also called electrical steel. During the production of cast iron, Fe-Si is also used for #inoculation of the iron to accelerate graphitization. In arc #welding Fe-Si can be found in some electrode coatings. 🔗 Learn More: 🌐: www.lsalloy.com 📧: info@lsalloy.com ☎️: 86 15837207537 https://lnkd.in/gfrM249B
