Today is #earthday 🌍 So, let's talk about the fashion industry's impact on our planet. 👕 Did you know that the fashion industry contributes roughly 10% of global CO2 emissions? Shockingly, about 30% of all clothes produced are never even sold/worn. That means that up to 3% of global CO2 emissions could stem from this overproduction alone. 👚 👗 👖 The biggest contributor to this issue are the long lead times that are still prevalent in the industry. Clothes are often made on the other side of the world by underpaid workers, only to end up in landfills or incinerators. 🗑 🔥 At silana, we're committed to changing this narrative by bringing fashion production back to the point of sale. Our goal is to eliminate overproduction and its harmful environmental consequences. 🌿💚 #EarthDay #SustainableFashion #ReduceOverproduction #ClimateAction

🌍 Today, August 1, 2024, is Earth Overshoot Day, the day we’ve used up all the natural resources that our planet can regenerate in a year. For the fashion industry—a sector notorious for its environmental footprint—this day is a critical reminder of our urgent need for systemic change. 📌 In 2024, we are consuming 1.75 times the Earth's annual ecological budget. 📌 The fashion industry alone is responsible for 10% of global carbon emissions and contributes to over 20% of water pollution, with 93 billion cubic meters utilized annually. 📌 Consumers today buy 60% more clothing than 15 years ago, while clothing waste has surged due to early discardment, overproduction, and cheap fabrication. 📌 Alarmingly, nearly one-third of the clothing produced is either burned or discarded before reaching consumers. As we reflect on these statistics, it's crucial for the fashion industry to embrace #sustainable practices, enhance #traceability, and #reduce waste. With regulations like the European Union’s #CSDDD, #CSRD, #ESPR coming into sharper focus, the pressure is mounting for us to rethink our practices. A robust traceability system is no-longer an option. Brands that prioritize sustainability today will be the leaders of tomorrow. Let’s take this Earth Overshoot Day as a wake-up call to rethink and reshape the fashion industry for a sustainable future. 🌱 . . #EarthOvershootDay #Sustainability #FashionRevolution #ClimateAction #CircularEconomy #FashionIndustry #SustainableFashion Image: Statista

🌎Climate change poses a grave threat to ecosystems worldwide, and for fashion enthusiasts, the relentless pursuit of trends to fill up a man-made void is not only unrealistic but harmful to our planet. Slow fashion offers a sustainable 🍃alternative that benefits both people and nature. To truly embrace the spirit of Earth Day 🌿 every day, we must reject last-minute gestures and greenwashing tactics. Understanding the stark differences between slow and fast fashion is crucial. Slow fashion fosters a symbiotic relationship between fashion & nature. In contrast, fast fashion prioritizes mass production and mass consumption without regard for environmental consequences. 🌿Today, let’s reflect on the actions we can take to preserve it for future generations. Whether it's reducing our carbon footprint, supporting sustainable initiatives, or advocating for environmental policies, every effort counts. Let's commit to making a positive impact on Earth, not just today, but every day. Together, we can create a greener, healthier world. #EarthDay #Sustainability #GreenFuture 🌱 #SlowFashion #SustainableLiving #EarthDayEveryDay 🌿

🌍 Earth Day 2024: Fast Fashion Facts This Earth Day, let's take a moment to understand the impact of fast fashion: 👗 We buy 60% more clothes than we did 15 years ago, but keep them for half as long. 🗑️ 85% of our clothes end up in landfills or incinerators. ♻️ Only 1% of textiles are recycled into new clothes. 🛢️ 70% of clothing is made from crude oil, releasing microfibers into our water when washed. 👩👩👦👦 Fast fashion often involves low wages, poor working conditions, and child labor. This Earth Day, let's make a difference by choosing quality over quantity and supporting sustainable fashion choices. #EarthDay2024 #FastFashion #Sustainability

🌍 Earth Week Follow-Up: Celebrating Rent a Romper and Sustainable Fashion 🌱 This Earth Week, I want to give a big shout-out to Rent a Romper and my friend Angela Ciccone for their dedication to sustainability in the fashion industry! Did you know that of the staggering 100 billion garments produced annually, a shocking 92 million tonnes end up in landfills? That's equivalent to a garbage truck full of clothes being dumped every second! If this trend persists, fast fashion waste is projected to reach a staggering 134 million tonnes per year by the end of the decade. The apparel industry's global emissions will increase by 50% by 2030 if we don't take action. But here's where Rent a Romper comes in: On average, a Rent-a-Romper member saves 190 gallons of water per month, conserving a staggering 40,000 gallons of water each month collectively. Their innovative rental service not only reduces waste but also helps mitigate the environmental impact of clothing production. Especially in those early years, kids grow out of clothes within weeks! #sustainablefashion #sustainablekids & the company is women founded! & delivered by United States Postal Service

What I saw this weekend! A Glimpse into Fast Fashion's Overwhelming Waste 👀 This weekend, I walked through an overstock warehouse looking for tile and what I saw was eye-opening—a vivid illustration of the excesses of fast fashion: 📦 Bins on Bins: Row after row filled with unsold clothes, most destined for the landfill. The sheer volume of waste was staggering. 🌍 Environmental Impact: Each unsold item represents wasted resources—water, labor, and energy—used in vain. 🔄 Need for Change: This experience reinforced the urgent need for sustainable practices in the fashion industry. We must support sustainable brands, push for better recycling technologies, and shift our consumer habits towards more ethical choices. What steps can you take to combat fast fashion waste? #SustainableFashion #WasteNotWantNot #EthicalChoices #FashionRevolution #EnvironmentalAwareness #Torianna

A Wake-Up Call from My Closet: Rethinking Sustainable Consumption. 👗 Last weekend , I was in the process of decluttering my closet, when i stumbled upon a startling realization - several unworn clothes still had tags on them while there were others i have not worn in the past year, yet i thought i needed new clothes. Then it hit me: What I really needed was a reality check.🤯 This moment of introspection made me realize the impact of fast fashion on our planet. The stats are staggering: - The fashion industry produces over 12% of global greenhouse gas emissions - 73% of garments end up in landfills or incinerators - The average American throws away 82 pounds of textile waste per year It's time to rethink our approach to fashion and embrace sustainable consumption! Let's make a conscious effort to: - Buy second-hand or rent clothes for special occasions - Invest in high-quality, ethically-made pieces - Care for our clothes to extend their lifespan - Support brands prioritizing sustainability and circularity Together, we can reduce waste, support ethical labor practices, and make a positive impact on the environment. Share your sustainable fashion tips and let's inspire each other to make a difference! #SustainableFashion #EthicalFashion #CircularEconomy #ConsciousConsumption #ReduceWaste #MakeADifference #LinkedIn100

💧 Fashion’s Thirst: The Water We Wear 💔🌍 The fashion industry is one of the largest consumers and polluters of water on the planet. From the thousands of liters needed to produce a single pair of jeans to the toxic dyes entering our waterways, the cost of our clothes extends far beyond the price tag. Why It Matters: Clean water is a precious resource, yet the fashion industry’s practices often compromise its quality and availability. Sustainable fashion seeks to change this narrative through: 🌿 Water-Saving Production: Implementing technologies and methods that reduce water usage. 🌊 Non-Toxic Dyes: Using eco-friendly dyes that don’t harm aquatic life or pollute water bodies. ♻️ Recycling Water: Encouraging processes that recycle and reuse water in production. By choosing brands that prioritize water conservation and cleaner production methods, we can help protect this vital resource. Let’s make conscious choices that reflect the respect our planet deserves. #WaterConservation #SustainableFashion #EcoChicExpress #CleanWater #ecofriendlyfashion
