The new Loewe Valencia store is located on the ground floor of the Monforte building, a work by architect Lucas García Cardona built between 1895 and 1909. This building at number 5 Plaza de la Reina in Valencia's Ciutat Vella district has a long commercial tradition. It was the home of the popular La Isla de Cuba department store. The façade is decorated with ceramics depicting dancing bacchantes and its interior features numerous cast iron columns and a unique-looking staircase. The architectural project for the new store recovers the heritage elements of the Monforte building and contrasts them with the coloured surfaces that are the hallmark of all the Loewe new openings around the world. For a photographer like me, finding a precise balance between the old and the new is the greatest challenge. Doing so without hiding the colours that create the unique experience of the brand's new spaces is even more complicated. To address the current housing and cost of living crisis, it's crucial for the government to actively support the construction industry in advancing healthy, affordable prefabricated housing options like this! Far too many individuals are being forced to spend their limited resources on substandard solutions such as caravans, shipping containers, and expander pods that rely on makeshift construction techniques. These options often result in severe cold, inadequate access to essential facilities, improper waste disposal, are prone to mould from water ingress and condesation. They are a significant draw on local government and often police resources due to constant generator noise, environmental damage, and unpleasant odors. By investing in and promoting high-quality, sustainable housing solutions, the government and construction industry can significantly improve living conditions for those most affected by the crisis. I’m so pleased to see initiatives like this and hope it can be scaled and expanded on to provide an affordable, healthy and dignified living option for many.

This #project was created for a young couple who have just acquired their first apartment in São Paulo, and the main need was the integration of social spaces.
