I solve company's IT Infrastructure problems and coach IT Professionals on building their career. Network Architect | .ı|ı.ı|ı. CCIE EI #65745

You should become a NOC engineer even without working at a NOC. Let me explain. 💻NOC stands for Network Operations Center, it is a centralized location from which network engineers monitor, manage and maintain the networks. Some of the functions of a NOC include monitoring, incident management, troubleshooting and support, reporting, and a lot more... these are things that most network engineers do on a regular basis. So you already have some of the skills required to work as a NOC engineer. Some of the skills that I recommend you to develop as well, is to gain familiarity with networking monitoring tools and software such as SolarWinds, Manage Engine OpManager, Zabbix, Wireshark, Grafana, Splunk, Cisco Secure Analytics and so on. The specific tools can vary based on the organization's needs, network infrastructure and budget. So there is no need to become an expert on all of them. In short, all you need to become a NOC engineer is to improve your technical skills and knowledge to better monitor, manage and maintain your network infrastructure. Oh by the way, most of these tools you can start using for free on your computer! #sc #noc

I love NOC. NOC is where everything happens. I have been using SolarWinds for almost a year and I can confirm that SolarWinds is excellent for internal IT teams in Enterprise organisations. On the other hand, PRTG can be an excellent alternative if you have a small budget. Another excellent tool for MSPs, both SMBs and Enterprises, is LogicMonitor. If you like SaaS 😉 Although an NOC engineer doesn't need to know all of these, they just need to be willing to learn and adapt their skills accordingly.
