💡Did you know mangroves extract up to five times more carbon than forests on land, incorporating it in their leaves, branches, roots and the sediments beneath them?
📌Mangroves combat climate change through carbon sequestration as they are some of the most carbon-rich ecosystems on the planet, storing on average 1,000 tonnes of carbon per hectare in their biomass and underlying soils. The focus on marine conservation, mangrove restoration and reef restoration cannot take place without local community engagement.
🌊 As a result, I'll be joining Sustainable Travel & Tourism Africa during this year's 1st #sttabootcampseries in Shimoni, Kwale County, Kenya to get a more practical approach on how REEFolution amidst the challenges of our warming planet they engage in reef restoration, community education, and proactive science-based climate change solutions.
