Ship allied with Willems Bridge, Five Containers Sunk Netherlands, September 11, 2024, the container ship NIJMEGEN MAX allied with the Willems Bridge, causing five empty containers to fall overboard and sink. The accident occurred around 8:45 AM, and a salvage team is en route to retrieve the containers. Other maritime traffic remains unaffected, though guidance will be provided if necessary. Initially, only one container was reported sunk, but four more eventually followed. Local authorities are investigating the cause, and minor damage to the bridge, including decorative lighting, has been reported. The vessel is now moored at Noordereiland, and no injuries were reported. This is not the first time such an incident has occurred. On March 1, 2024, the container ship MONIKA DEYMANN also struck the Willems Bridge, causing three containers to go overboard. A similar incident happened in March 2022 when another ship hit the same bridge, resulting in two containers falling into the water.
