Design Project 2024: The Hycean Opera
At the conclusion of Semester 3 in my Bachelor of Design program, I engaged in a comprehensive module titled 'Design Project.' This module provided an opportunity to synthesize and apply the diverse skills acquired throughout the semester. Through this project, I garnered significant insights into my personal and professional development as a designer.
My project focused on the conceptualization of a hypothetical Hycean Planet, giant water-worlds where I proposed the existence of life forms, which I designated as 'Exaquatic Life.' Given that liquid serves as the essential medium for the sustenance of life, the cultural framework of an entirely aquatic planet would inherently revolve around the celebration of life itself. Inspired by the period of our universe after the big bang where the entire universe was considered to have the same density as liquid and life could have been thriving at every inch of the universe!
I aimed to create a visually compelling design suitable for presentation at the World of Wearable Art, a renowned platform where art and performance converge. Drawing inspiration from classic performances, I framed my project as 'The Hycean Opera'—a thematic exploration that honors the essence of life in its many forms.
Informed by thorough observations of deep-sea ecosystems on Earth, I extended these ideas to develop a framework for Hycean-Nature, taking into consideration various elements including architecture, communication systems, artistic expression, behavioral patterns, creature-creature and creature-world dynamics.
This endeavor has significantly broadened my aspirations within the domains of world design, character development, cultural systems, and fashion design. Recognizing that fashion is intrinsically linked to lifestyle, I view this project as a pivotal aspect of my ongoing academic journey.
I have developed a profound affinity for this project and intend to continue refining it alongside my academic pursuits. I invite others to stay engaged for further updates and developments!
Share your thoughts about what you find wonderful in our world that we usually disregard or forget about to reminisce over the golden age of Human-Earth! Do you think Human Intelligence is capable of finding other species such as this? Or could we grow to evolve ourselves into such Planet-Adaptive Species?
I would lastly like to express my gratitude to Professor Sanjay Guria and Professor Kamal Vas Narayana for mentoring us through this significant course.
