On a lighter note... 🎶 Silo has been collaborating with Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ in Amsterdam since 2009. This year, we're taking on a crucial new challenge: wayfinding! While the venue’s iconic architecture is celebrated, navigating its split-level floors and multiple entry points can be tricky—especially for visitors to BIMHUIS, the renowned jazz stage inside the building. Silo is creating a cohesive wayfinding strategy to make the space more intuitive, accessible, and welcoming, reinforcing its unique identity. Lilium Tower in Warsaw, Poland Visualisations by VA-ARTS LLC Architectural design: APA Wojciechowski Sp. z o.o. for Golden Star Group. ✨ Skyscrapers: Expanding Possibilities or Changing Horizons? Every time I walk through a city of towering skyscrapers, I feel that familiar mix of awe and curiosity. 🌆 These structures push the boundaries of what we can build, but they also raise a big question—are they expanding how we see and use space, or are they cutting off our connection to the open world around us? On one hand, skyscrapers symbolize progress and innovation. 🚀 They create vertical space where horizontal space is limited, allowing cities to grow and evolve in ways we never thought possible. But on the other, do they change the way we connect to the environment? Drop your thoughts in the comments, and if this post made you think about how cities shape us, don’t forget to like it! 👍 Let’s spark a conversation about how architecture influences our experience of space.👇 #Architecture #Skyscrapers #UrbanPlanning #DesignDebate #CityLife #RealEstate #CGArtists #InnovationInDesign

Last week, during my trip to #Copenhagen I visited Danish Architecture Center #DAC where I came across a case study of "breathing new life into unloved building" in Sydney. Even in a relatively new commercial real estate market such as Poland, the trend of conversion of older buildings is getting more popular as the available land for new construction is becoming scarce, the architectural shape of a building becomes obsolete/not allowing for enough floor space or there is a higher demand for a different function in the area. Currently we are witnessing some #ESG examples of transforming office buildings (mainly) for the living purpose on the Polish market and only more are about to happen, which I hope we will be able to explore in different architecture museums soon! But for now, more about this phenomenon is in our report, link in the comment 💡

2024 is the 10th birthday of one of the most important unbuilt projects of the new millennium. With a staggering 1,715 entries from every corner of the globe, the Guggenheim Helsinki #competition not only captured the imagination of the architectural community but also set a new benchmark for #creativity and engagement in our field. Why do architectural competitions matter? They're the battlegrounds where the future image of our cities is shaped and contested. They're where daring #ideas meet practical challenges, and where the architectural #visions of tomorrow first take flight. Let's zoom out on a "Top 5": ◽ Centre Pompidou - broke all the rules, turning the idea of a museum inside out. ◽ Sydney Opera House - dared to dream big, becoming a national icon and a masterpiece of modern architecture. ◽ High-Line - transformed an abandoned rail line into New York's favorite park, redefining urban regeneration. ◽ Guggenheim Bilbao - showed us the power of a single building to change the fate of an entire city. ◽ Tokyo International Forum - a marvel of steel and glass, set new standards for public spaces. Each of these projects started with a simple call for entries, much like the Guggenheim Helsinki competition. This is where creativity meets opportunity, where every sketch and model has the potential to redefine our cities and how we experience them. #Architecture is not just about buildings; it's about visions, about community, and about the bold steps we take toward the #future. Swipe for a few original drawings! 💎 #Architecture #Innovation #GuggenheimHelsinki #UrbanDesign #FutureCities #DesignCompetition #ArchitecturalVision

I think you know the examples on how architecture can redefine urban identity and put cities on a map. Yesterady I had an opportunity to visit Szczecin representing Architectresses | Architektoniczki on Human Right Conference. Of course a stop in Philharmonic is a must! Why? Because this building has totally redefined the city’s narrative, elevating the city's significance on the global stage! What this building has changed: 👇 👉 Architecture as Identity Szczecin, a city with a complex history and diverse cultural influences, has long been searching for a modern symbol to represent its identity. The Philharmonic Hall, designed by the Spanish architectural firm ESTUDIO BAROZZI VEIGA SLP, offers this in a powerful and evocative form. 👉 A Catalyst for Urban Renewal Its presence has sparked urban renewal. The area around the building has transformed into a vibrant cultural hub, attracting tourists, artists, and locals alike. Architecture has brought new life into a city, fostering not only economic growth but what more important- social interaction. 👉 Raising Global Visibility Before the construction of the Philharmonic Hall, Szczecin was not widely recognized on the international cultural map. However, the building’s striking design has garnered numerous accolades, including the prestigious EU Prize for Contemporary Architecture - Mies van der Rohe Award in 2015. This recognition has put Szczecin in the spotlight, attracting global attention and increasing its tourism appeal, asserting itself as a destination for art, culture, and innovation Architecture is not merely about constructing buildings; it is about shaping the soul of a city and giving it a voice. #architectresses #architektoniczki #barozziveiga #philharmonichallszczecin #architecturematters

In the pursuit of sufficiency, embracing a lifestyle within planetary boundaries means finding balance — having enough without excess and respecting, rather than exploiting, our environment. But what does this look like in urban planning? How can we design neighborhoods where sustainable choices are easy? As part of Keilecollectief, Cityförster Rotterdam explored the history of Dutch building culture, analyzed its current state, and envisioned future scenarios. These efforts culminated in our exhibition: "HOW DO WE WANT TO BUILD M4H 2030?" As part of our ongoing research, Carbon-Based Urbanism, we examined four historical typologies from Rotterdam, placing them in a national-historical context that includes economic trends, regulations, and socio-political developments. This approach offers a multi-layered perspective on the relationships between urban planning, lifestyle, and our ecological footprint. The Merwe-Vierhavens (M4H) area in Rotterdam is transforming into a dynamic live/work district with circularity at its core. To realize this vision, we must collectively answer the question: how do we want to build? Want to visit the exhibition? Send us a message, we look forward to showing you around! Date: June 15, 2024 – September 15, 2024 (closed from July 14, 2024 – August 20, 2024) Opening hours: Wednesday-Saturday from 12:00 to 17:00. Location: Keilezaal, Keilestraat 7-9, 3029 BP Rotterdam HOW DO WE WANT TO BUILD M4H 2030 is an initiative of the Keilecollectief with contributions by Happel Cornelisse Verhoeven, De Urbanisten, CITYFÖRSTER, GROUP A architects | Carbon Lab and StudioADAMS. The exhibition is supported by Stimuleringsfonds Creatieve Industrie, Gemeente Rotterdam (Cultuur), M4H Rotterdam, AIR - Architectuur Instituut Rotterdam , Vandersanden, Cordeel Group, Dura Vermeer Bouw Heyma B.V. , DGMR, Aveco de Bondt, ABT bv, Concrete Blossom and Adviesbureau Lüning.

Jan Gehl, the renowned Danish architect and urban planner, emphasized that human life must guide the design of spaces and cities. Too often, cities are built with buildings as the starting point, leaving little room for the vibrant human interactions and natural connections that make places feel alive. Gehl’s philosophy aligns closely with Gaudí’s vision of organic, people-focused design. Both remind us that architecture should enhance life—not constrain it. By focusing on life first, we can create inclusive, accessible, and sustainable spaces where communities thrive and connections flourish. How can we ensure the spaces we design put people first? #UrbanDesign #JanGehl #HumanCentricDesign #CitiesForPeople #GaudíWorldFoundation

Sustainability is a necessity for the future of our cities. A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of talking with Ivana Kildsgaard Director of Sustainability Tengbom , one of Scandinavia’s leading architecture practices, and Chairman of 100 Gruppen, which focuses on how to create circular and sustainable interiors.. Not only did we talk about having courage in design and thinking outside the box, but also about the role of AI in sustainable architecture and circular economy.
