Helping therapists integrate EMDR and Psychedelic Integration Therapy in their practice — Wounded USMC to Founder & Licensed Therapist — EMDR Certified Therapist & Approved Consultant — MAPS Trained — Supervisor
Catalyst is a project I'm building to honor the role of both first-responders and EMDR therapists in our world - facilitating meaningful connections between both. First-responders are struggling with mental health/performance (and related stigma issues) and experienced EMDR therapists have top-tier treatment available to support first-responders in feeling and performing their best on and off duty. If the pilot works out as I anticipate and this project scales, I intend to create meaningful opportunities for therapists to join as clinical partners (I am interviewing the first few innovative therapists this week). IF YOU'RE A THERAPIST INTERESTED IN PARTNERING IN THE FUTURE, here are few things I encourage you to pursue to position yourself to thrive in this future program: 1. If you're not already, become trained in EMDR by taking an EMDRIA-Approved training. If you are already trained, begin looking for opportunities to continue consultation toward Certification (let me know if you need an Approved Consultant to work with). 2. Performance Enhancement- Join the EMDRIA SIG for Performance Enhancement for peer consultation/supervision in performance enhancement with EMDR and take Dr. Sara Gilman's training. 3. Psychedelic Integration- Take the trainings offered on the EMDRIA website that cover psychedelics (mine will be available after the virtual conference in September). And consider joining my Therapist Integration consult group! If you have already completed these, once we have the resources to develop a clinical partnership program you will be offered a more competitive rate than therapists who have not yet completed these professional development milestones. If you haven't, we intend to offer as many of these professional development opportunities as we can as part of your partnership with us. Stay tuned! #emdr #emdrtherapist #therapist #firstresponders #mentalhealth #psychedelicintegration #performance

As a clinician, you likely engage with individuals and groups who have survived various traumas and formative adverse life circumstances You have helped your clients to struggle better (or cope) and supported them in experiencing resilience. And imagine that you can be a part of facilitating a possible transformation – of reconstructing the narrative and supporting clients beyond coping and resilience. Post-traumatic growth (PTG) represents positive psychological change occurring in some who suffered trauma. In this workshop, you will gain an understanding of the brain-mind dyad, the role of mindfulness, the latest research pertaining to PTG, its markers, and insights into clinical interventions you can begin incorporating into your work now to promote clients’ journey to healing and growth. You will gain not only an understanding of but also acquire a set of tools and skills that can support you in the mastery of listening for and nurturing posttraumatic growth. 🌟 Excited to Share: Recently Completed 8-Hour Training on First Meeting & Emotion-Focused Individual Therapy in Holistic Psychotherapy and Reality Therapy! 🌟 I'm thrilled to announce that I've just completed an intensive 8-hour training program focused on two crucial aspects of psychotherapy: "First Meeting and Emotion-Focused Individual Therapy in the Perspective of Holistic Psychotherapy" and "Reality Therapy". 🧠💼 During this comprehensive training, I delved deep into the intricate dynamics of the initial therapeutic encounter, emphasizing the significance of building trust, rapport, and understanding from the very outset. ✨ Discover the Hidden Power of Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy! ✨ In a world where conventional therapies sometimes fall short, a remarkable and transformative approach is quietly changing lives. Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) is harnessing the innate wisdom and sensitivity of horses to guide individuals on their path to emotional wellness. 🐴 What is EAP? Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy integrates the presence and interactions with horses into therapeutic practice, allowing clients to explore and address emotional challenges in a unique and impactful way. The non-judgmental and responsive nature of horses provides a mirror for human emotions, facilitating breakthroughs that traditional talk therapy may struggle to achieve. 🌈 Why it Works: Emotional Insight: Horses respond to human emotions with heightened sensitivity, helping individuals gain deeper self-awareness and insight into their emotional states. Building Trust: Working with horses necessitates the development of trust and communication skills, translating into improved relationships and interpersonal dynamics. Mindfulness and Presence: The interactions with these gentle giants encourage mindfulness, grounding individuals in the present moment and reducing anxiety. Non-Verbal Communication: Horses communicate primarily through body language, providing a rich field for exploring non-verbal cues and enhancing emotional literacy. 🗝️ Key Benefits: Reduced Anxiety and Depression: Engaging with horses has been shown to alleviate symptoms of anxiety and depression, promoting a sense of calm and well-being. Enhanced Self-Esteem: Successfully managing tasks and developing a bond with a horse can significantly boost self-confidence and self-worth. Trauma Recovery: EAP offers a safe space for trauma survivors to process and release painful emotions, fostering healing and resilience. As we continue to explore diverse therapeutic modalities, the power of Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy reminds us of the profound connection between humans and animals, and the incredible potential for healing that lies within that bond. Have you or someone you know experienced the benefits of Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy? I'd love to hear your stories and insights! 🌟🐴💬 #MentalHealth #EquineTherapy #Psychotherapy #InnovativeTherapies #HealingWithHorses #EmotionalWellness #Mindfulness #TraumaRecovery #MentalWellbeing

Counseling for individuals, couples and teen families in person in Brookline, MA and online throughout MA and TX
During a recent psychotherapy training session, I had the privilege of sharing insights from my practice with colleagues, focusing on the crucial client intake process. We delved into the significance of assessing a client's motivation for embarking on the therapeutic journey, recognizing its profound impact on the eventual outcome. In my experience, a client's commitment to their own healing journey is paramount. Without this, the therapeutic process may not yield the desired outcome. Today, I was deeply moved to receive an extraordinary email from one of my esteemed colleagues who participated in the training. My colleague eloquently drew parallels between our discussion and the ancient city of Asclepion, a pioneering healing center dating back to the 4th century BC. Asclepion, dedicated to Asclepius, the god of health, stands as a testament to the fusion of medical and psychological interventions in healing practices. The metaphor resonates profoundly with our exploration of the client intake process. Just as patients seeking healing in Asclepion underwent evaluations and a symbolic journey along a sacred path, clients in therapy are called upon to demonstrate their commitment to their own healing. The notion that healing requires active effort and a willingness to engage with the process resonates deeply. It emphasizes the importance of approaching therapy from a place of agency and empowerment, rather than passivity or dependency. I am immensely grateful to be surrounded by such reflective thinkers and colleagues who enrich our collective understanding of psychotherapy. This metaphor serves as a poignant reminder of the transformative power inherent in the therapeutic journey, guided by dedication and a shared commitment to healing. #Psychotherapy #TherapeuticJourney #CommitmentToHealing #ReflectiveThinking #transactionalanalysis #KarpmanDramaTriangle #Healingjourney

I recently had the opportunity to attend a Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) training session at Stockport NHS Foundation Trust, and it proved to be incredibly insightful and enriching. CFT is a powerful approach designed to help individuals manage their inner critic, develop self-compassion, and build emotional resilience. Here are five key takeaways from the training that resonated with me: 1. Understanding the Evolutionary Model of Emotion CFT emphasizes how our brains have evolved to manage threat and drive systems, which can sometimes make us overly self-critical or anxious. Learning how to recognize these patterns in clients can be the first step toward fostering self-compassion. 2.Balancing the Three Emotional Systems CFT focuses on balancing the threat, drive, and soothing systems to promote mental well-being. The training underscored how crucial it is to activate the soothing system to counteract stress and anxiety, helping individuals feel safe and calm. 3. The Power of Compassionate Imagery One of the most transformative tools I learned about was using compassionate imagery. This technique helps clients visualize a nurturing, compassionate figure (real or imagined) to provide support during difficult times, promoting self-soothing and emotional regulation. 4. Shifting from Self-Criticism to Self-Compassion CFT highlights the importance of addressing harsh self-criticism, a common issue for many clients. The training demonstrated practical methods for helping clients reframe their inner dialogue and move toward a more compassionate mindset. 5. The Therapist’s Role in Modeling Compassion Finally, I learned that as practitioners, it's vital to model compassion in our therapeutic relationships. Our ability to be calm, non-judgmental, and supportive sets the foundation for clients to internalize these qualities and apply them in their own lives. This training has deepened my understanding of CFT and its applications, and I’m excited to integrate these skills into my practice! #CompassionFocusedTherapy #CFT #MentalHealthMatters #EmotionalWellbeing #SelfCompassion #TherapistTraining #NHSStockport #Psychology #TherapistGrowth #CompassionInTherapy #NHS

What does “getting better” actually look like? 🔍 At one point or another in our experience as therapists, we might feel panic 😫 about feeling like our clients are not getting any better in therapy. 👎 This may either be because of our own evaluations 📝 of their healing journey or because of our clients’ own comments about it. 🗣️ Therapist, if this is you, I want you to remind yourself 💭 and/or your client that “better” looks different for each of our clients. Because they have different goals 🥅, they will also have different timelines and markers of progress in therapy. It’s important we stay patient. These goals will take some time before our clients are ready enough 💪 to go about life on their own. Usually, it’s also not actually a case of them not ❌ getting better, but just that we don’t recognize that their pacing 🚶♀️ isn’t the same as what we or they expected, but that’s okay! 👌 When that happens, help them orient to their goals and the shifts they’re making in therapy. 🗺️ Most importantly, help them stay consistent. Because consistency helps make change happen. 👏 And let yourself be the grounding, steady voice 🗣️ that helps them go through the ups and downs of their lives as they’re making shifts. ❤️ How do you deal with feeling like your client isn’t getting any better? Share them with us in the comments! Esther Goldstein LCSW - Therapist, let’s bring your practice to the next level.
