It often involves multiple reschedules, uncertainty about what to wear, and a variety of other road blocks. At the heart of these nerves is often a deeper issue. Not feeling confident in how you look or how you come across in photos. If this is you. I've got a couple of tips, to alleviate anxiety: We call this the headshot mindset. Step 1: Prioritize your goals. Your first thought might be about how you look—you want to feel confident, "look good," and make a great impression. And while those things matter, ask yourself: when has simply "looking good" ever truly taken you where you want to go? Your goal should be to represent yourself in a way that highlights what makes you exceptional. Are you innovative? Creative? Confident? Approachable? A thought leader? Think about where you want to go and what qualities about you will help you get there. That kind of representation is far more impactful than simply choosing the right outfit or being at your ideal weight. Has anyone ever told you, "I decided not to buy from Jenny because she has a few too many wrinkles in her face." Step 2: Be authentic and confident The reason people choose to work with you is simple: because of you. If you feel the need to put on a facade to keep your clients, it might be time to reconsider your career, and start by getting a headshot that represents the real you! People want authenticity, not pretense. So don’t go shopping for something you’d never wear just for your session. Instead, pick your favorite outfit—the one that feels the most you. Yes, advice like “solid colors photograph better” or “avoid bold patterns” can be helpful. But if bold patterns are part of your personal brand and make you feel like yourself, go ahead and wear them. Own your style, it’s what makes you stand out.
