Working with Salesforce Education Cloud to provide the best services to prospective, current and alumni Students. Working primarily as a developer keenly aware of the balance of development and functionality.
I do love highlighting work and sharing to hopefully give ideas to others working in the same field. We recently improved our student portal to better connect students with the university departments that can help them succeed. Previously, this information was scattered across the general campus website, which serves a broad audience including faculty, staff, and the public. This can make it difficult for students to find the specific information they need. The Solution: A Focused Student Portal Our student portal, which requires login, allows us to target information directly to students. This way, we can highlight all the relevant departments where students can not only get information but also schedule appointments directly. Leveraging Salesforce's Student Success Hub We utilized the "Support Pools" feature within the Student Success Hub to house department information that is presented to the student so they can see what the department offers. It was important that it be clear and written by the departments themselves. Our Goals: Empower Departments: We wanted departments to be able to easily update their information within Salesforce itself. Enhance Presentation: We aimed to go beyond plain text and provide richer content with formatting options. Making it Happen: To achieve these goals, we made the following changes: Added a dedicated field in Salesforce to hold formatted text for each department. Developed a custom component using Lightning Web Components (LWC) to display the text, images, and relevant details about each department in the desired format on the student portal. Created a new page within the student portal to house this component. The Outcome: A Smoother Journey for Students With this I feel we've made it easier for students to find the support they need, hopefully making their educational journey a bit smoother.
