Caregiving and faith: a powerful combination As a caregiver and preacher, I've seen firsthand how faith can sustain us in challenging times. Today, I want to share a quote that inspires me: 'Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.' - Hebrews 11:1 In caregiving, we often face uncertain futures and unseen struggles. But with faith, we can find strength and hope. Let's support each other in our journeys, both as caregivers and as people of faith. #caregiving #faith #hope #strength"

It can be easy to forget about yourself when focused on caring for someone else. Assuming #caregiving roles, which require a lot of “invisible” work, can bring on anxiety, depression, and grief-related illnesses. This is why more local programs are providing art therapy classes to provide #caregivers with a space for creative self-expression, catharsis, and respite. These are a few #arttherapy programs in southeast Michigan: https://lnkd.in/eNaCMBcQ

This step is so important
Author of GONE FROM MY SIGHT aka: "the hospice blue book", NHPCO Hospice Innovator Award, End of Life Educator
We who serve need to establish a bond and trust by the end of our first visit. Time is the enemy here. Sensitive information, scary information, heart wrenching information will be shared and given. How do we get beyond the social conventions of strangers meeting and getting to know and trust each other in a very short time? From the time we ring the doorbell for the first time, our bonding efforts begin. I begin with a handshake and introduction. “Hi, my name is Barbara. I’m going to be your hospice nurse” (or admission nurse, or social worker, or home health aide, or chaplain). Now sit down and get acquainted before actual work begins. This get-acquainted time is as important as all the other work you will do. You’re beginning to build the trust, the comfort that is necessary for each other part of your work. “Tell me how you’re doing? How is John doing? Tell me a bit about how everything is going for you right now.” While having this conversation, sit next to the person — not across the room, not across a table. You want to be able to touch, to feel close. Without words, you are creating a kinship with which to build trust. No laptops or tablets in sight. No paperwork. This is get-acquainted time, person-to-person time while mentally gathering information. #hospice #hospicenurse #caregiver #familycaregiver #caregiving #cna #hospicesocialworker #hospicechaplain #endoflife #death #dying #cancer #heartdisease #kidneydisease #hospicephysician

I am committed to documenting and quantifying the work carried out in family households providing family caregiving. I want to be able to put equivalent work that would be carried out in an institutional setting side by side with the work being done by family caregiving families. I want to compare the flow of resources that support each bed within these settings. I want to create and then compare a line by line chart of accounts that would allow us to see, in tangible terms, how resources are allocated, how values are defined, and whether the flow of resources is appropriate for the quantity and quality of work being carried out. As I look back on my records for the past two years of family caregiving, it allows me to see this work in a new light. It allows me to understand this work from a distance, instead of only seeing the seeming amorphous mass from the point of view of immersion. I want to help change our perspectives about caregiving: our understanding of what it means to be a caring economy, and our systems support for the work of caring in our society. https://lnkd.in/guR4pzNF
