Lots of talk about town on #NVIDIA. When we speak to our #portfoliomanager clients, they are (rightfully) concerned about what would happen if this “super-stock” experienced a correction. In this article we look at the specific industry and style factors that are the most impacted by a drop in performance.

This analysis really was prompted by queries from our risk model clients- I can't recall another time in my career working with risk models that I have been asked about an asset's impact on a factor (it's typically the reverse)! The stress test on the index is also unique, and opposite to how stress tests are typically conducted. Nevertheless, the results of both the stress tests and the factor portfolio attribution both illustrate the extent to which we are in uncharted waters with respect to concentration in the US market, at least within the history of our US models, which goes back to the early 1980's.

NVIDIA, the new darling of Wall Street, experienced a record-breaking drop of $128 billion in market cap last Friday (8 Feb). This pause comes after an incredible six-day winning streak and a jaw-dropping quadrupling in value over the past 12 months.
The share price of NVIDIA is now closing in on the impressive $1000 milestone, sparking discussions about a possible share split.

CEO Math explained.
"The more you buy, the more you save," "That's called CEO math. It's not accurate, but it is correct."

EIOFS – Early Indicators of Future Success.
Are we solving just for interesting problems, or do we have interesting markets as well? Without the markets, the solution or technology alone cannot be sustainable.
And how would you solve for future markets then? What is a good KPI to measure its success? It can’t be a simple calculated metric which just indicates a ‘result’. We need to look for something that shows - as early as possible - that we are in the right path. Those that would give hope for people to continue their good work. Those are the good KPIs!
I have worked with scorecards and KPIs earlier, but this conversation has made me relook at the concept of KPIs from a different perspective. I would definitely recommend you watch this interview with Jensen Huang, Founder and CEO of NVIDIA and Shantam Jain, MBA ’24, GSB.
I really liked his view on how to carry oneself both in crests and troughs of life: ‘This week is no different than last week; or week before that. Go back to doing your job. Your job is to make a unique contribution!
