Attended a session on Nai Taleem (Today and Tomorrow) I recently attended a thought-provoking session on Nai Taleem, led by Prof. Sujit Singh and Prof. Pallavi Verma. This experience took me back to my own student days, when we explored the principles of this educational philosophy and discussed its implementation across the curriculum. However, as I’ve progressed through the education system, I’ve noticed that many of these beneficial practices have been sidelined. Today’s educational landscape often feels like a race against time, marked by restlessness and an overwhelming rush to complete the curriculum. This approach is not only counterproductive but also diminishes the joy of learning. In the frenzy to cover material, we risk losing the essence of education—curiosity, creativity, and genuine engagement. What we truly need is a shift in perspective. By slowing down, reflecting, and redesigning our educational systems, we can create environments that cater to all learners. This would involve prioritizing understanding over mere completion and allowing space for exploration and meaningful connections. Nai Taleem reminds us that education should be about more than just finishing a syllabus; it should be about fostering a love for learning that lasts a lifetime. Embracing this philosophy could help us cultivate a more enriching and enjoyable educational experience for everyone.

🌟 Bridging the Gap with Standardized Assessments 🌟 Participating in an online workshop led by Margaret Moffat on ADEK’s Assessment Specifications and the Bridging the Gap initiative was an enriching experience! 🔊 Here's what teachers had to say when asked to share the ‘best’ things about attending the HTAV Annual Conference: 🍊 HTAV offers the best PD out there. You can attend the conference one day and walk into your classroom and apply practical strategies that support and enhance the learning of students the next. 🍊I felt affirmed about so many of the things I am doing – and I left with the confidence to try a few new things. 🍊The incredible wealth of knowledge from colleagues and peers, learning from them all, what a joy! 🍊I just want to thank HTAV and all the amazing presenters who are part of our wonderful community of history teachers. It feels so empowering to be surrounded by people who educate with such passion and champion the value of our subject! 🍊I was able to meet with like-minded people and I left the conference with knowledge that I will be able to apply in my future teaching. 🍊The sessions were fantastic and the exhibitors provided a lot of information for me to bring back to school. Yesterday, iArticulate held its pilot Monthly Meeting Series workshop! We had a great time talking about our 2023-24 school year, and thinking of ways to start 2024-25 with a bang :). Thanks to all who participated. We reflected on how we are doing with the Approaches to Learning (AtLs). Did we effectively lead students to develop their Thinking, Communication, Social, Research and Self-Management skills? And what were our biggest challenges? Lots of good ideas shared. What does it REALLY mean to develop these skills? This is worthy of deep consideration. As important, and less often considered: how are we doing with Approaches to Teaching (AtTs)? This is more challenging for most schools – in fact, many IB teachers are not very familiar with them. In our brainstorming and sharing, we saw disparity between the different ATTs. For example, ‘Focus on Conceptual Understanding’ seems to be a tough one to authentically address. ‘Assessment’ and ‘Inquiry’ appear to be more accessible. Why is this? And what can we do to address all of them? Our IB Subject Guides mention all of these, but how do we REALLY implement them in our pedagogy? What are your biggest challenges when it comes to AtLs and AtTs? An outside voice can make all the difference when it comes to maximizing your IB experience for teachers and students. Want to ‘up your IB game?’ Let us know. Our next Monthly Meeting will be in early August. Stay tuned! www.iarticulatementors.org #iArticulateWorkshops #ApproachesToLearning #ApproachesToTeaching #IBEducation #IBProfessionalDevelopment

👨🎓 🤝 👨💼 To truly engage students we need to bring education and practice closer together. For example through 'Challenge-Based Learning', an educational method in which students work on relevant assignments from organisations within a course. That's why Master Challenge was founded. I wanted to allow students to work on actual challenges faced by organizations motivating and preparing them to use university knowledge in the real world. Challenge-Based Learning is not only useful for students, who put their knowledge into practice, learn important skills, and expand their network, but also for organisations that come into contact with talent and receive state-of-the-art academic knowledge in the form of (practical) recommendations. Win-win. I love talking about this type of education... Hence the video 😎
