Access(ible) All Areas We’ve seen lots of organisations wanting to provide accessible and inclusive events for disabled attendees over the last few years. Sharing this case study on a Leonard Cheshire partnership with The Health Foundation. We reviewed event policies and processes, to identify and eliminate barriers that prevent disabled people from participating in events. We’ve worked with organisations to review event plans, we’ve created resources and guidance, and delivered training to event professionals. As the Founder, Conference Producer, and Business Director for Jazcorp's Human Services Division (NDISDA), I am proud to share the Division's ambitious vision for 2025. With over 20 conferences and an estimated 35 national events annually since 2020, NDISDA continues to serve as the peak actionable platform for driving the sector forward through education, collaboration, connections, and opportunities. 2025 will see new programs addressing the evolving challenges in the SDA and Social Housing sectors. We’ve heard the voices of the NDISDA Members, and the challenges—such as vacant SDA homes, funding limitations, and policy shifts which are very real. That’s why we’re dedicated to refining our approach and upholding the values that truly matter. While collaboration is essential, collaboration with caution is key. Diligence is the foundation for success, ensuring that all stakeholders benefit as we collectively work toward sustainable solutions. This year, we are broadening our scope by partnering with the National Social Housing Impact Strategic Alliance, bringing together ethical businesses and organizations committed to making a genuine social impact. Our roundtables, workshops, and programs are designed to address the unique challenges faced by each State, unite professionals and stakeholders under a shared vision, and deliver practical, solution-driven outcomes. The 2025 conferences are more than just events—they’re platforms for action. Whether through education, advocacy, or connecting like-minded professionals, we aim to drive impact, empower change, and create opportunities for all in SDA and social housing. 💫 The way associations connect their members is evolving. You could argue that connecting members is the primary function and the very reason for a professional association’s existence. Associations typically connect their members only a few days a year, through physical events such as conferences. However, interaction and connection between members are abruptly cut off after the event (“See you next time!”). Consequently, member engagement also ends abruptly, which can reduce long-term involvement and commitment to the association. Thank you so much, National NHS Muslim Network. I am honoured to Speak at the Islamophobia Awareness Month Webinar. And I have to be honest; this resonated with me about the session: "We’re finishing this series of events in style." As part of my research, I developed the CARE framework last year, linking it to the overall agenda of EDI, Well-being and Mental health. A statistic that stood out to me is that 1 in 4 people in England experience a mental health problem each year. This underscores the urgent need for support, increased awareness, and open discussions around mental health. On 29/11/2024, I’ll be joining an insightful panel as part of the NHS Muslim Network’s “Islamophobia Awareness Month” to discuss the intersection between Mental Health and Islamophobia. This session, “Seeds of Change - Small Actions Contribute to Big Change,” is a timely conversation about the real impact of Islamophobia on mental well-being and practical ways to foster inclusivity. I wanted to share some key stats and Insights. Did you know: 1. Mental Health Impact: Islamophobia and discrimination can lead to heightened levels of anxiety, depression, and PTSD among Muslim communities. 2. Structural Challenges: Muslims in the UK face disproportionate socioeconomic barriers—lower employment rates (51.4% vs. 70.9% overall) and overrepresentation in the criminal justice system, which exacerbates mental health challenges. 3. Workplace Discrimination: Evidence shows that BME staff often feel unsupported when facing discrimination. A recent study found that only 5.4% of those who raised concerns about race discrimination felt their issues were resolved satisfactorily, highlighting a significant gap in organisational responses Our Responsibility: The stigma surrounding mental health and Islamophobia requires us to challenge biases and promote culturally sensitive support systems. Organisations must adopt frameworks beyond mere tick-box exercises to address these issues authentically and sustainably. Join us on MS Teams to be part of this essential conversation. Can a no-agenda gathering be more "productive" than a structured program? 🤔 So often, we try to fill every aspect of a community get-together, event, or conference with goals and objectives to fulfill, forgetting about the primary need and the lubricant that makes any gathering successful - leaving space for people to be together and have enough time to get to know each other. Well, last weekend, ChangemakerXchange did just that, hosting homecoming events for the community in 11 cities around the world. 🌍 I attended the event in Berlin, and spent time with an amazing group of people, including Esther, Maximilian, Johan, Matthias, Nick, Miriam, Tanzila, Azeem, 🦓 Moh, Bontu, Jonas, Veronika, Merit, Martin, Mariko, Karolina, Hovhannes and many more 💛. I felt more connected to the community and got a lot of energy for days afterward. And, the event led to more follow-up meetings that have the potential for collaboration and community contribution. 🤗 Have you experienced a similar approach at events or gatherings?
