What do you see in the picture below?
You're seeing the first R-Mode signal that has been sent through the DGPS broadcast in Finland. This is the outcome of testing and checking how well the R-Mode modulator works with the DGPS site.
This was a collaborative effort from this week by Fintraffic VTS, German Aerospace Center (DLR),Transpordiamet - Estonian Transport Administration, @Federal Waterways and Shipping Administration (WSV) of Germany,Väylävirasto / Trafikledsverket / Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency and @Federal Maritime & Hydrographic Agency of Germany have successfully transmitted the first R-Mode signal in Finland, utilizing the DGPS transmitter. This test was conducted at one of the DGPS sites of Fintraffic VTS.
🔗 Activity is part of the ORMOBASS Project: Crucially, this testing was one of the first steps of the ORMOBASS EU Interreg co-funded project, highlighting our commitment to leveraging collaborative, European Union-funded initiatives to drive innovation in maritime safety and navigation.
📡 Understanding R-Mode: R-Mode (Ranging Mode) serves as a pivotal backup technology for maritime navigation, ensuring continuous, reliable positioning information, particularly in scenarios where satellite systems might fail.
🌊 Enhancing Maritime Safety and Reliability: The integration of R-Mode with existing DGPS systems is a significant step towards bolstering the safety, efficiency, and reliability of maritime navigation. It represents a leap forward in our ability to navigate the seas safely, even in challenging conditions.
👏 A Collective Success: A congratulations to all the teams and individuals involved in this project. Your relentless effort, skill, and collaboration are reshaping the future of maritime navigation.
