Most Quantity Surveyors won’t understand what I have created for them Because most just go to work, do what they ‘have’ to do and go home Most wake up on Monday thinking - grrr I ‘have’ work today Most get excited for Friday so they can enjoy for 2 days Most have compartmentalised their life into work and play They don’t understand that the work they do every day should be building their future They don’t see every day as a learning platform They don’t see themselves as the asset that they are building They are not engaged in their day They don’t question why things work the way they do So they never wake up excited for work So they are never able to contribute actual value to their projects So they are rarely able to influence the outcome The world has changed, but Quantity Surveyors remain stuck in the old model of the working world The old model which was to work for 5 days because they had no other choice and then retire at 65 That model does not sustain itself in this new world In this new fast paced world I hope one day, the entire QS world can see the value in what I have created for them It is based on the new way that the world is working It is based on waking up excited every single day It is based on you being the asset If you agree with anything I have said, please like this post so others can see the value of it It is very very hard to reach Quantity Surveyors without you liking my posts It is time to wake Quantity Surveyors up To get you excited for work every single day To stop producing average quality work To BUILD the FUTURE

Very few Quantity Surveyors are actually in careers. Most are in a job. They work because they ‘have’ to They work primarily for the money They wake up not very excited going to work They would rather be somewhere else than at work I used to be like that. Then I changed! ………. Here is how I went from not enjoying my work to waking up excited every day: 1. Have a vision! Link the work that you do every day to where you want to end up. This is hard because it actually requires you to think about your career and what you want to achieve. Take the time because this is the biggest game changer to waking up excited everyday 2. See your day as a learning platform. The goal is to absorb the knowledge from the projects you work on and the people you work with so that you can apply what you learn to the next project you work on. This will keep you 100% engaged in your day 3. Develop a growth mindset You want to believe that you can get better at the quality of your work through effort. This is how you get 1% better every single day which makes you 37x better by the end of the year. 4. See everything as a form of instruction Your manager said something that made you unhappy. Great! Use that as fuel to make your work better. You made a mistake on your projects. Great! Admit it and find a solution so it does not happen again. 5. In 5 years time you are going to run your companies biggest project Imagine that in 5 years you are going to be given the keys to your companies biggest project. You have no choice. Now that you know this..how are you going to live out the rest of your working days? I bet you are going to be way way more focused and engaged. ………. And that is exactly what we want.
