Today, I went for coffee with a friend who has been on quite a journey for last 4 months. They've had four interviews for senior positions, reaching the final round each time. Despite meeting all the job requirements, they often heard, "We found another candidate." What stung the most was when those positions went to internal hires. My friend is proactive and always asks for feedback to improve, but genuine insights are hard to come by. Out of these four interviews, only one hiring manager showed real interest and kept their résumé for future opportunities. This got me thinking—candidates just need a fair chance to prove themselves. You can't fully judge someone's potential in a 30-minute interview. True performance is measured by numbers and results over time. If we're doubting candidates who already have experience, how will we give chances to freshers? They don’t have experience but need a stair to climb. How can we judge someone’s progress without seeing their journey? So here’s my suggestion to recruiters and hiring managers: when sending a rejection email, include the reason for the decision.
