Mt. Pleasant High School students were visited by Samsung Semiconductor Inc. earlier this year, made possible in part through a partnership with the Silicon Valley Education Foundation (SVEF) and the Eastside Education Initiative. Samsung Semiconductor Inc. (SSI) is the semiconductor division of Samsung Electronics, one of the world's largest technology companies. The company plays a crucial role in the global semiconductor industry, supplying components to a wide range of electronic devices, including smartphones, tablets, computers, televisions, and other consumer electronics. At the event, students had the opportunity to hear from a range of employees at SSI to understand the career possibilities and network with professionals from different departments, including engineering, marketing, and HR, at the Mentorship Fair. The event had two parts: 1) a career panel developed specifically for all 9th-grade students and a 2) a mentorship fair open to 9th to 12th-grade students. Ria Tyagi, a student at Mt. Pleasant High School learned from the experience sharing, “I learned that every experience and every career pathway is so different. We can see some people started off and knew where they wanted to go vs. some had some different pathways to where they are today. And I think that was very powerful for our audience to hear. 2024 Semiconductor Summer Camp in Taiwan My friend Michael who lived in Arizona has done a wonderful thing for the young talents from Arizona and around the U.S. 31 students have completed 13 days of Semiconductor training workshop. I really envy these students who have the opportunity to learn and make semiconductor at this young age. 10 years from now, some of them may join the ecosystem of Semiconductor. 20 years from now, one of them may be the Semiconductor industry leader. I told them "Treat your classmates well because theny may be billionaires:)". Next year, there will be more students join this program. Arizona+Taiwan will definitely play a major to nurture talents for the Semiconductor industry. #Arizona #Taiwan #Semiconductor

I am honored to be recognized as one of the 2024 winners of the "Mahboob Khan Outstanding Liaison Award" from Semiconductor Research Corporation (SRC). Let me start off by saying I am a big fan of academic-industry collaboration. It seems only yesterday when I started my first research mentorship project through SRC back in 2015. Like many passionate liaisons, I did my best to communicate the industry challenges, share insights and facilitate tech transfers, while learning much from my academic collaborators through the process. Little did I know the monthly calls eventually turned into decade-long (and counting) friendship and partnership, where the research collaboration spined off new forms of industry-academic collaborations such as the "Princeton-Intel REU Program" (https://lnkd.in/gk4EpcTw). What's more, I am privileged to have the talented post-doc and PhD candidate (you know who you are) joining my lab after their graduation. Since then, we have been working together solving more and more challenging problems for the semiconductor industry. 😀 Guess who gets the most out of these collaborations? 😀 I still remember my excitement of receiving the "Mahboob Khan Outstanding Liaison Award" for the first time back in 2016. One thing has not changed since then: I am still a strong believer in academic-industry collaboration and I will continue to do my best to support this. Yesterday, I had the pleasure of meeting with delegates from Peoria, Arizona and other industry leaders to discuss the future of the semiconductor industry in the United States. With new fabs being built across the country, Arizona has become a targeted location for critical fabs like #TSMC. It was inspiring to see the proactive approach this state is taking to develop the workforce and infrastructure needed for these fabs to operate efficiently. As the industry continues to grow, it's important that states collaborate and not compete with one another. We need to develop the right workforce, promote STEM education, and increase our focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion for the immigrant workforce that makes up one-third of the semiconductor industry's workforce in the US. With an expected shortage of one million workers by 2030 in the semiconductor industry, we must act now. #Semiconductor is the foundation of everything digital we experience. It’s not enough to focus on the importance of this industry to the world. Here in #siliconvalley, we should not take this valley for granted. We need to continue to create the right foundation for this industry and to remain the #technology hub of the world.

We’re honored and excited to announce a new partnership! Today, ACC joined @theuniversityoftexasataustin and the @Texas Institute for Electronics to launch a new initiative designed to help make Central Texas a premier hub for comprehensive workforce development that will fuel the needs of the semiconductor industry. Together, we’re building a special program that can serve as a one-stop-shop for an industry in need of skilled labor, creating seamless and coordinated education pathways between UT and ACC to address every skillset on the semiconductor workforce continuum, ranging from equipment technician to semiconductor engineer. Under the partnership, UT and ACC will: Develop a joint Semiconductor Training Center (STC), allowing students at UT, ACC, and nationally to receive hands-on technical training combined with academic theory. It also will host programs designed to transition current workforce talent into the semiconductor industry and advance the careers of incumbent workers. Develop Semiconductor Curriculum & Credentialing. Leveraging faculty from both institutions along with industry experts, this initiative will build stackable skill-based microcredentials and related education activities, with plans to develop K-12 partnerships. We'd like to congratulate Alexis McPeck, who recently received the Intel Corporation Scholarship for Women in Technology. This competitive scholarship was awarded to only 25 women in Ohio! Not only were recipients awarded with a scholarship, but eight were selected to visit the Intel semiconductor factory in Phoenix, Arizona. "I wasn't sure how I wanted to pursue [technology] until I saw COTC's partnership with Intel. That got me looking into all the technology programs they had, and I landed on electrical engineering." This scholarship aims to empower and solidify the role of women in technology. "It's a very rewarding thing to be a woman in engineering," McPeck says. "To play an important role in a primarily male-dominated field is very empowering. And to know that I could potentially inspire other young women to also jump in and pursue a path like mine is so cool." McPeck, like many COTC students, had a nontraditional journey to college. "I'm a single mother, so I thought going to college wasn't going to be an option for me," explains McPeck. "I'm so glad I made the decision to try and go back to school, because I've learned that I can do what I initially thought was impossible. COTC has been great with helping me through this experience." "I couldn't believe how big of an operation it was. I learned so much about the culture of Intel and what they're trying to accomplish. They seem to really care for their employees," McPeck enthuses. "I also learned about the many potential career paths I could take at Intel with my degree and what a day in the life of those jobs would look like. There is so much room for growth. We spoke to many people who have climbed the ladder, from all the way down where I'd potentially be starting!" McPeck describes the Intel-sponsored Phoenix trip as "one of the coolest opportunities I think I could've ever gotten!"
