Equity in access is about identifying barriers that prevent people having equal access to great care and overcoming them. Evidence will come from 👍Needs assessment - where the barriers are identified 👍Care planning - where the barriers are overcome 👍Care records- this is the evidence that barriers are overcome 👍Care plan reviews - this show how well barriers are overcome 👍Service development plan- this evidences your assessment of how well the service overcomes barriers and how to improve this 👍Staff development (training, supervision, team meetings)- evidence that this is embedded into practice. The above also provides evidence for Equity in experience and outcomes as well

🎉 Exciting milestone alert! My daughter turned 11 on 2.8.24! 🎂 As I reflect on her journey so far, I'm reminded of the importance of self-discovery and knowing what you want in life. From a young age, I've instilled in her the value of understanding oneself and identifying aspirations. Just as I encourage individuals I've trained and worked with to grasp the significance of their roles in inpatient and outpatient Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI), I emphasize the importance of self-awareness to my daughter. As she navigates through her preteen years, I see her curiosity and determination to uncover her passions and goals. It's a reminder to all of us that self-discovery isn't limited to a specific age or stage in life – it's a continuous journey. In my professional realm, I've witnessed firsthand how understanding oneself can significantly impact the quality of patient care. When individuals are empowered with the knowledge of their roles and responsibilities in CDI, they contribute to better healthcare outcomes and patient experiences. So, as my daughter blew out her candles yesterday, I'm reminded of the parallels between her journey of self-discovery and the vital roles we all play in healthcare. Here's to embracing our individuality and making meaningful personal and professional contributions. 🌟 #SelfDiscovery #CDI #HealthcareJourney #LifeLessons

The Massachusetts Association of Physician Assistants (MAPA) is pleased to officially announce a significant update as it transitions to a new board of directors. Effective May 17, 2023, the board voted to amend the Constitution and Bylaws of MAPA, officially adopting the new name: The Massachusetts Association of Physician Associates. This change was completed on September 20, 2023, marking a crucial step towards updating our identity across the Commonwealth and within state legislation. The decision to adopt “Physician Associates” aligns with the American Academy of Physician Associates (AAPA)’s 2021 resolution to modernize the profession’s terminology. Incoming President Thea Nolan, MPAS, PA-C, shared her perspective on the name change as well stating: “The adoption of ‘Physician Associates’ as our official title signifies a pivotal moment for our profession in Massachusetts. This evolution not only respects our historical roots but also enhances our visibility and recognition within the healthcare community.” For more information on the title change and ongoing advocacy efforts, visit @aapaorg #pasdothat #patitlechange #paadvocacy #physicianassistant #physicianassociate #physicianassociatestudent

Recently, at ADvancing States’ HCBS Conference, PHI gathered experts from Wisconsin, North Carolina, and Michigan to highlight their work developing statewide direct care workforce training and credentialing systems. These centralized systems are intended to enhance the competency of direct care workers, increase their ability to move between settings (and advance their careers), and improve the quality of care these essential workers provide. Here is a quick look at each of these innovative and impactful projects. https://ow.ly/tbiR50PT1Kb

The Power of Associate Support: Compassion in Healthcare In the fast-paced environment of healthcare, moments of crisis and intensity are not uncommon. As a chaplain, I've witnessed firsthand the profound impact these experiences can have on both patients and healthcare staff. That's why I believe in the invaluable role of chaplains in providing support not only to patients and families but also to our fellow associates. One time, I found myself in the Emergency Department faced with a challenging situation involving a patient in distress. Amidst the chaos, I observed a nurse grappling with the aftermath of a volatile encounter. Recognizing the importance of emotional processing and support, I made it a priority to check in with her, offering a listening ear and a shoulder to lean on. This incident highlighted the significance of associate support in healthcare settings. Whether it's debriefing after a difficult patient encounter, processing the emotional toll of a code or trauma, or simply providing a compassionate presence in times of need, chaplains play a crucial role in nurturing the well-being of our healthcare team. By fostering a culture of empathy, intentionality, and inclusivity, we create an environment where associates feel valued, heard, and supported in their roles. Regardless of our differences, whether in background, belief, or experience, we stand united in our commitment to serving others with compassion and dignity. I want to see a culture of compassion in every aspect of healthcare. My fellow chaplains and I are steadfast in our commitment to fostering healing, resilience, and well-being for every individual. In what other ways can empathy and compassion be encouraged in healthcare settings? #Chaplaincy #AssociateSupport #Healthcare #Compassion #WellBeing Transforming Chaplaincy Chaplaincy Innovation Lab

While I may be biased given my background as both an Advanced Practice Nurse and having a degree in Political Science, I believe that the future of nursing leadership is dependent upon leaders' ability to mobilize politically. Nurses' voices need to be heard before it is too late. For years nurses have been warning of the looming shortages, increased burnout and untenable nurse-patient ratios. Sadly, these warnings have not been heeded. With growing complexities, insufficient staffing and a system that cannot keep up with our aging population, nurses have no other choice but to sacrifice a seat at the table to hold the patient's hand at the bedside. Developing healthy public policy - focused not only on the current state of healthcare systems but on future needs - is essential. However, if we don't learn to adapt, challenge the status quo and collaborate we run the risk of stagnation. When discussing advocacy, one of the physicians I worked with discussed the legacy of Joe Madison, also known as the "Black Eagle" who was an advocate and talk-radio host. The purpose was to highlight how advocacy is an ongoing practice, one that will evolve over time but that can never stop if we want to see change. Joe Madison once said that we don't pass the torch onto the next generation, but instead, we light the next generation's torches while keeping our own burning. When it comes to public policy development, let's light torches that will illuminate a way forward for effective change.
