In a recent interview with Fox 5, Brett Schreiber criticized Tesla's use of its customers as "beta testers" for its autopilot system following several devastating accidents. Representing multiple clients, including the families of those killed or severely injured, our firm is challenging Tesla's practices in court. Schreiber asserted that no other car manufacturer has tested unfinished technology in this way, putting public safety at risk. We are determined to secure justice for those affected and prevent further tragedies.

Fred Perkins talks about the time it takes to perform a takeover for an automated driving system starting at 35:00. Quotes a study that shows handoff takes perhaps 5-10 seconds (perhaps longer). Legislators should impose a minimum safe harbor that once an automated driver assumes the duty of care for driving (i.e., controls steering on a sustained basis), there should be a minimum safe harbor of 10 seconds after a demand to the human driver to resume driving before which the human driver is not held liable for a crash. In some cases it might need to be longer per a jury, but for less than 10 seconds the burden should automatically be on the computer driver to avoid dumping liability onto a driver who has been conditioned to be out of the driving loop and needs time to take over. https://lnkd.in/ej-kS68Y

It was bound to happen at some point. Approximately 3:15 AM a Tesla semi left the roadway on eastbound I-80 near Nyack and caught fire. It’s still burning at about 500 degrees. Westbound traffic just recently was allowed to flow again. Eastbound is still closed as of 6:30 PM. I-80 is the major thoroughfare in and out of California in the northern half. No injuries reported from the accident. Hopefully this incident is a learning lesson for all EV manufacturers on how they can increase safety and for first responders in how to safely put out EV fires. One fire should not stop EV’s from moving forward but should be used to better understand. https://lnkd.in/gbQQ4wkP

Police in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, are actively searching for a vandal responsible for defacing 34 Tesla Cybertrucks with expletive-laden graffiti. The vandalism, which was discovered early Friday morning, featured the message “F*** You Elon” spray-painted on the backs of the trucks, each valued at approximately $80,000. The incident was first noticed by a passerby walking his dog near the parking lot leased by Tesla. Local news stations confirmed the extent of the damage, reporting that while the spray paint was not permanently damaging, the clean-up process was labor-intensive. "It was just one row, and then it was a second row, and then a third row and a fourth row,” Adam Docktor, who works nearby said. Another local worker, Hoss Alavi, humorously remarked, "I thought Elon Musk put them on sale. I was trying to buy one." The parking lot, located in a less secure area lacks security cameras, gates, or other protective measures. The graffiti reportedly occurred overnight with local resident Yasser Rabello capturing video footage of the vandalised trucks at around 4am. This incident adds to the recent challenges faced by Tesla's Cybertrucks. Since their release, the trucks have faced criticism for their range and a significant recall due to faulty accelerator pedals, as documented by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Additionally, Tesla has temporarily halted Cybertruck deliveries due to issues with the vehicle's windshield wiper motor, leading to an accumulation of undelivered trucks at various locations across the United States. While some suggested turning the graffitied trucks into a special edition Cybertruck, Tesla employees opted to remove the graffiti entirely. The cleaned trucks now await customer pickup, their shiny exteriors a testament to the resilience of both the vehicles and the company amidst these challenges. What do you make of this?

Police Academy: ‘In a firefight, hide behind the engine block,’ but in a Tesla, there is no engine block. The challenges of making an EV a patrol car. 🚓💥🔫 SFGate shared some insights from a recent pilot program testing Tesla as a patrol car in California, US. So, what are the technical requirements and modifications needed to transform a personal vehicle into a patrol car? • Emergency lights, sirens, radio, antenna, push bar, partition, and gun rack must be added. • Ballistic panels and a place for cover in case of a firefight (usually the engine, but there is no engine to provide cover in an EV). • Large battery capacity and/or fast charging infrastructure are required; otherwise, officers spend too much time charging the vehicle. • It should have a large back seat for suspects, or it will require more officers with additional cars to respond. • Car doors must be suitable for fast operation, so officers can engage immediately when needed, keeping in mind the police duty belt (weighing 10 kilos). The report below summarizes the Tesla pilot use for law enforcement - an extremely interesting read. Autopilot included :) Recommended!
